here in Australia your sunburnt constantly, that's why everyone gets skin cancer. :/ The sun is so powerful in summer that sunblock only helps - but doesn't prevent sunburn.
cold showers help heaps, other that that, you never build up an immunity to sunburn, you still get it, just after a while you just don't feel it.
