Us "old folk" have had a lot of time to think about this shit.

The only legit answer you'll get from someone with enough body hair & life experience to have good reason to worry about death.
Other shit pales in comparison, bring it on.

What about dementia and other neurodegenerative conditions?

Though indeed, many of my fears of dying are related to being alone when it happens, though probably in a more literal "because if i'm alone then nobody can stop me from dying to this" sense than "i have nobody left". Not to say that the latter isn't among the worst of ways to go.
