The reason why this hasn't been fixed, is because it is hard to fix.
Well, not quite hard, but risky.
People in one house might be using the same IP, for example, if there were two brothers playing each-other through wifi in the same house. The other solution would be to deal with two of the same person in one server. There is another concern here. Some people's toribash often PINGS out, and by the time they start it up and go back to the server, they have beaten the PING timeout, and see's themself in the server, if you know what I mean.
If the game were set to temporarily or perm. ban in-game anyone who did it, it would risk upsetting innocent toribashians.

Also, try not to insult the game while you're currently enjoying it. :/

So long as someone is not doing it to take advantage of some aspect of the game, besides shear time involved, then I don't see a problem with it. I don't see why everyone else sees a problem with that. If it's ridiculously crazy where it's counting as a DoS attack, then it will be treated as such, not multilogging. Multilogging itself is not a real offense. It's just that some people use it to farm, which IS a real offense. DoS is also a real offense, so don't multilog on the same server.

(For those not technically savvy, DoS stands for denial of service)

IRL, can you be working at two jobs at the same time?

In my opinion, playing on more than one client is taking advantage of the system because you will get Qi twice as fast as you should, and have the potential to earn TC twice as fast as well.

Last Autumn I actually got in trouble a few times doing this.

Also, to take an example to extremes, imagine two rooms in which five or so players are in both rooms. Sure it doesn't sound likely but if this is allowed to catch on, it will happen eventually.

Another extreme example is where the same two people are playing eachother in four separate rooms, perhaps clan servers that have a slightly longer reaction time.

To take this argument in a different direction, consider someone attempting to multilog with a Windows resolution of 800x600 with Toribash taking up most of his monitor vs. someone playing on a resolution of something like 2560x1600 (yes it's a real resolution and I've seen monitors that support it) The person running the higher resolution would be able to see like six instances of Toribash at once, giving him an unfair advantage.

Bottom line, I'm heavily against it.
If you're that bored waiting to play again, go to the Lobby (that's still around right?) or you could always open another instance of Toribash and play single-player.

Surely the central authentication server would only allow one instance of a login at a time, right?

I dunno, I don't like "Double Accounting", mainly because than I just lose twice as many matches. Further damaging my frail psyche.

look, ok maybe you dont care about tc's or qi, but some people do and people DO farm for both of them. and you complain about waiting lists? if people are allowed to do this, they just make others wait even longer. So people that do not double client and play fairly suffer because people like you take up spots... and then you complain about waiting in the queues?!!

i think if you really care so much about an extra few minutes in the queue, get over it or leave. there are plenty of other servers with little to no people in them. or there is always the option of SP, as volt suggested.

- GOOD servers are always overfilled.
ok, pretty often i take a buddy and find an empty server and play there. but if you want to play in famous rooms like room 8, or twinswords, or some funny mod which is gonna be taken down by the admin after 1 our anyway, then the room always has too many people.
other people "taking my place" by double accounting dont really bother me, because whenever i double account, i never see anyone in exactly two same rooms as myself

but OF COURSE ITS GAY TO BE IN 10 ROOMS TO GET TC AND BELT, YES, but its not the point. people who only want TC, Qi, belt, 1337 colours, etc. are stupid anyway, and do not get the sence of the game, and will cheat or do whatever anyway.
it also sucks to be 2 times in one room, yes. but i never did or seen that

[edit:] and if its my turn in both of the rooms at the same time, i just go spec+enter and let the others play. i also watch out for this not to hapen, so the others dont have to wait untill i get afk-kicked. playing in two rooms at the same time doesnt make fun, you are just gonna miss both games.


the REAL solution to waiting lists problem would be:

1. giving the damn toriserver.exe away, so everyone can host. you would see me once in a month then, because i would just host and play with my butt-buddies on a server you dont even know about, and then i would give them some of my TC so they can get themselves an ugly face texture i would also come to visit you sometimes on public server to kik ur ass :P

but since the game makers wont give it away because of the money:

2. dublicate the room number and make a constant server for every decent mod (always add new rooms when new mods are there)

- i dont care if SOME PEOPLE farm, I do not.
they can jump into a pit full of rabid hedgehogs while having their "cool" random colours on, if they like.

anyway, what kind of stupid, inefficient, time-wasting way of getting TC is doubleacount farming? it doesnt make any sence, you spend 999 hours doing that and risk getting banned, while you can just work 2 hours in mc. donalds and pay your 1000x booster. at least this is what i would do if i was out for TC.

@ samule: yes , i had that ping bug couple of times too. was like "wtf, ghost-jay :S"
but i dont believe this problem cant be solved technically. there are so many games which do not have the problem and work perfectly for the cases u named like two people with one IP etc..
they just dont WANT to solve it or dont care.

anyway, just for the admins:

i DO double account (aka open 2 windows with jaythegay account) when a room is filled to hell, since the double acounting itself without further violations is not bannable. be smart, fix the reason of the problem by giving us more space, make toribash better!

i DO NOT farm, and you can delete all my TC anytime if you like. and i am not planning on getting demon or whatsoever. my cheap blue+yellow colours are enough.

Jay, do you realise, that if you're in 4 different queue's , the everyone else has to wait on average longer, because of you're multilogging ?
