I'm a cool kid, I like reading, what now?
/ontopic techie type books are annoying: "The hypoelectrical thesis states that protocol must dictate an anthropodigal antroinsumation of the asymetric algorythm."
I hate the above.
I've received letters in the mail from friends, and they write in txt speak. Not as formal as a letter to Obama, but still show some class.
By the way, these are my opinions, I understand you may feel different and that's fine.
I'll choose other. I can understand it, but sometimes it takes me a while to figure out what they're trying to say. Example. (This is from a friend who recently texted me) "Wat tim is the 5pm game?" My answer.. 5? Turns out he meant something like, "Is the game at 5pm?"
Watching a movie with friends is more social your right, I won't argue that. But, books can be easily shared, if you discuss it with someone else who has read the book. Find my quote where I said books are more active. I may have said books contain more detail. I've never heard anyone say, "lets go watch the movie instead of reading the book because then we can all share the experience. They may have said, "lets go watch the movie, it's faster than reading the book." Which is fine. I like to do both read the book and watch the movie. But usually it's a kid saying "I don't want to read the book, it's easier to just watch the movie." And that's where I find it a bit lazy. To never have read a book, just because it's easier to watch the movie.
And so what is wrong about not reading books? Once again, is this an elitism thing?
It's not like I feel I'm above everyone else I just don't like it.
I have friends who read a bit, friends who read a lot, friends who don't read, and you would not be able to tell the difference between them.

Not a child. Most of my friends are 16. It just seemed weird to read a hand written letter that's written in txt speak.
I agree, I read a lot, and my friends had a hard time believing it. This is NO elitism thing.
My country doesn't recognize 16 as an adult. (Neither does the UN :S)
... Actually which country are you? I can't think of any that confer full rights on 16 year olds...
And why is that..?[?QUOTE]
Kansai dialect is difficult for Japanese to decipher, which is parallel to you finding "txt speak" difficult to decipher.
Where does the analogy fail?
Stop saying "it just does"!
Lazy = not enough motivation to put in effort
Thus you imply reading books is more active...
