The funny thing is, there is no proof that it is habitable. It might be, but might not. Spending all of our fortunes and planning to go in about 2 years, on a manned mission to a planet that we don't know anything about, well, it's kind of dumb.

Secondly, it seems people ignored this:

There's much closer planets that could also be habitable.

Also, agentmax, that's the first thing that i've seen you post that actually makes sense. If we plan on reaching a planet light years away, it's quite possible that we would need to start a civilization within the ship, and if the first generation can't reach the planet in time, their children/grandchildren might.

I agree fully. They Japs are pretty much on their own. As soon as they try to start a war everyone will be on them like moths to a light. They can start the war. But nearly every other country will end it.

Although yes, a lot of important technological advancements were made as a side effect, that does not mean that said discoveries couldn't possibly have been made without it. I think that the investment would have been better placed in the US school system. Can you even begin to imagine what it would be like to live in a world where Americans are all educated as well as Finns?

Lol Strangelove saying dumb things again huh.

Do you even understand the kind of economic returns that investment in to NASA has?

The problem with American schooling is not "they havn't pumped enough money in to it", it's a political and social problem, Americans still think it's 'cool' to do badly in school and not study. You really think that you can fix it just by pumping in money?

But then, like I said before it is pointless for anyone except for people who work at NASA/Roscosmos/CNSA to speculate on such matters because it will not be happening in our lifetime.

You better hurry up and die Strangelove.

Considering how ignorant your post was, I loled. Please stop posting, you are shaming your country.
Strangelove has a good point though..

But he didn't have any good points in the first place, plus as I just said he was wrong about practically everything he said...

Or was this sarcasm?

EDIT: Oh yeah, this happened recently;

What an unbelievable thing to say. The idea that nobody in America wants to learn is absurd and is nothing short of racism, you should be ashamed of yourself. The reason the education system suffers in America is due to the inequality of standards of teaching. If you lived in a poor inner city area and you were being "taught" by someone who doesn't give a shit about you, and would rather send you to a juvenile centre or expell you instead of deal with your problems, how much would you have cared about your education? How far do you think you could have progressed? You take so much for granted it is sickening to me. Spending time and money to give everyone in America the chance of a good education is a very good step towards fixing it.

The year is 2013, you seemed to suggest that NASA would be conducting manned missions to a planet that is 42 light years away within 2 years. In response to me pointing out how utterly ludicrous that is you run with: a plan for a manned mission to the moon 7 years away, a mission to an asteroid 12 years away and a mission to Mars over 17 years away.

You hopefully won't need me to explain to you why that, along with your statements below are hilarious to me.
