Look... the future is uncertain.
Ancient Mayans had predicted the world would end on December 25th, 2012. That may or may not happen, who cares? If the world ends, we're dead. If it doesn't, we're alive. Nowhere in that is "and if we freak out and panic everything will be better."
I've done research. The poles shift, but it takes time. The magnetic field is created by the movement of molten iron and nickel deep within the Earth's molten core. As that slowly changes its direction of flow, the actual magnetic poles move themselves. There is no way for the poles to suddenly shift, unless something cataclysmic were to happen to the Earth, such as an impact of sorts, or a large-scale surface explosion. Then, perhaps, the poles would shift,but its integrity is higher than that of the human race. We'd be dead by the time the poles had a chance to affect us.
If the poles switch, it will take millenia. They had switched every [large number] years or so before, and it's been approximately 3 times as long as it had taken before, since the last pole switch. This means that the core has most likely begun to stabilize, and enter a normal swirling pattern.

I dont think the Mayans exactly said it would end, but more just said of great change. I doubt we will get killed, so guys dont worry.
