It all started a few months ago from this very day. My name is Betard Roshark, Beta for short. Right now I don't have much time. I need you to read my story and do what you are supposed to do.
First I have to tell you my story. My friends Johnny and Largo were horsing around with me in my basement those few months ago. I turned around as soon as I head the word "OUCH!" I went over to see what happened. I saw Largo on the floor, and something next to his foot.
I helped Largo up, and then I asked "What did you trip on?" Largo replied "I don't know, but it seemed it appeared out of nowhere." I leaned down and examined the mysterious object, it seemed to be some kind of handle. "I think it's a doorway" Johnny said.
I tugged on the door's handle but it did not budge. "Look!" Johnny said, "There's a keyhole" he added. We looked and looked for the key but we did not find it. All of a sudden, my hands started tingling, and my eyes felt weird.
"Ummm, Beta, your eyes are glowing and your hands are glowing as well." Largo said, "It seems as something is happening as your hands are glowing." he added. "I see something, something flashing, in the shape of a.... KEY!!" I said, surprised at everything that is happening.
"I see a house, WAIT A MINUTE!" I yelled. "THAT'S MY HOUSE" I added. "I see my house's...... BACK, THE KEY IS IN THE BACK!" I shouted excitedly. As soon as I figured it out, the flasing and the visons and the glowing just.....stopped. We all ran outside and went to the spot where I saw my house from.
"I don't see anything here." Largo said. "Maybe it's underground?" Johnny said, wondering. We all decided to start digging with the shovel I use for my garden work. It took us a while, but we finally uncovered the key, and we all then dashed to the basement and put the key in the lock.
It turned very slowly, and made a louse creaking noise like an old wooden door. When it finally opened, we all stared in amazment, as there was a blood red doorway right in front of us down a hall from where we were crouched down in my basement. We all stepped inside the doorway to the dark, gloomy hallway that leaded to the treacherous doorway that loomed ahead.
"What's inside there?" I asked, clueless. "There's only one way to find out, even though I know we all won't like it." Largo said. We all crept inside to the hallway that was pitch dark except for the doorway with such slight light I couldn't even move without bumping into Johnny or Largo. We finally reached the doorway and we heard horrible screams and moans coming from the inside.
I swallowed and a lump stuck in my throat. We all slowly opened the door to find a dark red room, and as soon as we went into the room, the door crumbled into pieces. "No way out now." Largo said. We all had to continue this, as we had no choice but what lied ahead. Johnny and Largo crept forward, followed by me, to the dark and dangerous door that was ahead of them.
We then all stumbled into the room to find 2 pathways that split. "How are we gonna find the right way, if there even is a right way?" Johnny asked. We all decided that we should check both paths by walking down one and then coming back through and walking through the other. But as soon as we cramped into the narrow tunnel the ground just merged together, blocking our entrance.
"Well, again there is no way out." Johnny said. We had no choice again, but to go forth into the dark pathway ahead. We all were obviously frightened, as our skin was pale, and our hands were trembling. The farther we walked, the more scared we got, and the darker it became. After a long time of walking, we started to see light, and it started to grow brighter, and brighter.
We soon then came to a stop, as we reached the source of the light. There was a tunnel with light leading into it. We all decided to walk to the light source. We walked down the tunnel with the light shining through the little tunnel. We soon reached the source of the light, which was a campsite with the light source, which was a very bright lamp, and another one next to it.
I started feeling that one strange tingling that happened earlier, and I noticed I was glowing again. This time I could hear practically anything now, except anything from the surface. I heard footsteps, and they were very loud. I knew whoever was walking towards us was nearby and heading in this very direction. "Guys, we need to hide." I said. They asked why but I said "It doesn't matter, just hide NOW."
I realized the tingling and glowing had stopped again. By now Largo and Johnny could hear the footsteps as well. Johnny started to talk, but I cut him off because if he kept talking the person who supposedly was living here and coming this way would hear him easily. Now the footsteps were closer, and around the corner. My heart was beating and I think it might've skipped a beat. The footsteps were now a few feet away.
My heart was beating faster than it had ever been, and I was sure Johnny and Largo were just as scared. When the person reached right where we were hiding, I signaled Johnny and Largo to jump out on my signal. I figured whoever was out there couldn't overpower all of us. I did the signal, and I jumped out just as Johnny and Largo did. Whoever was out there was surprised, but not for long. The person grabbed my arm, twisted it, and slammed me to the floor.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" The mysterious person questioned me. "We just stumbled into a doorway in my house and into another, and into this tunnel, where we walked until we found this place." I told the figure. "My name is Betard Roshark, but call me Beta, and these are my friends, Johnny and Largo." The figure let me up, and I saw who it was. It was a girl, and she said her name was Katara Sembolica.
"I myself have stumbled into this cavern of dirt, and I have yet to find my way out." Katara said. "I come back here to eat what ever grows in this dirt cavern and whatever I find on my tries to find a way out of here." Katara said. "How long have you been here, Katara?" I asked. "A few days, a week at the most." She replied. "Each and each day that has passed I go deeper into this dark, gloomy dirt tunnel. "But I would like for you to join me in my travels for the exit, with your friends as well." Katara said.
"It's better than going alone in a tunnel which we do not know where what is what." I said, annoyingly. "I'll agree if my friends agree, too." I said, looking back at my friends. They nodded as a "Yes" sign. "Okay then, I think we need to gear up for this one, as we need more supplies and food for more people now, unless the tunnel and it's underground plants can provide the food we need." I said, confidently. We all decided to bring some supplies then rely on the tunnel to provide the rest of what we need to survive.
Then we all headed out, wandering into the dark except for our brightly lit lamp. After a long time of walking, assuming we walked a long distance, we got hungry and thirsty. We all figured we should stop to eat and drink to regain our energy. We had some plants from the tunnel and some food that we had from the campsite. As soon as we were done eating, we all started walking again. "How far have you traveled at the most, Katara?" I asked. "I don't know, I don't really keep track of how far I walk" She replied.
"Okay then, how long do you travel in these caves, even though you go farther every day?" Largo said. "A few hours, I guess." Katara answered. "How long do you think we will travel this time?" Johnny asked. "I dunno, it depends." Katara replied, clueless. We continued walking silently, picking food from the tunnel and water from mini-ponds in the spacey tunnel. We then came apon some sort of....arena. "What is this?" We all wondered, staring at the giant arena. We all trudged into the arena, but as soon as we walked in, again, the door shut, and then dissolved.
All of a sudden we hear this blood curdling roar, and the ground started shaking like an earthquake, and we heard footsteps that sounded like Nuclear Bombs. The sounds and feelings got louder as every boom got closer. When we first saw the monster, we were frightened to death. The monster looked like the Minotaur from Greek myths, and it looked vicious. The only few differences from the myth was it had flames coming from it's eyes, and it had strangely looking eyes behind the flames, looking demonically black. Before we had time to react, it charged us with rage.
Pure rage. It charged me, somehow detecting me as an immediate threat. It caught my leg when I rolled and I flew into the wall. I got up but my body hurt, especially my rib cage. I realized my pain got softened in seconds, and then I realized I was glowing again. This time my hands did most of the work, just like my eyes found the key, and my ears heard Katara walk through the tunnel. "Beta, why are you glowing?" Katara asked, suprised. "Not now, I will explain after this." I replied, looking at the Minotaur monster.
I moved my hands and I suddenly knew I could control things with my hands. I put my right hand to the Minotaur and clenched my fist. It was taken up as I moved my hand upward. I moved my other hand and grabbed a boulder in the arena, and swiped my hand to the right side of my body, smashing the boulder into it's face. I didn't want to kill it, so I just continued to hurt it until it couldn't hurt us anymore. "There." I said, breathing hard, not realizing that I had been scared during that time. Katara then asked that question. "Beta, will you please tell me why you were glowing?" Katara asked.
Largo and Johnny both explained what happened earlier that day. I expected more senses to come, but not wanting to see what taste was, if it was gross. We then walked through the exit door, even though the entrace door had reappeared. We still had plenty if supplies as well. I asked everyone else that if this tunnel contained that, that thing, if something lied ahead, and if it was worse, how much more do we have to go through? They all just shrugged. I kept wondering that for a few hours. We stopped for a rest a few hours later, and I was glad. My legs were practically killing me.
We all had dinner with the supplies plus the plants and water we had gathered. After we had finished eating/drinking, I stretched and so did the others, as we all decided it was time to sleep. We all crawled into the blankets that Katara had brought with us when we left. When we awoke the next morning (Or so I think was the morning) we set off. After we left we realized the tunnel was getting wetter. I said to everyone else, "Do you guys realize the tunnel is getting moister?" I questioned. They all nodded in agreement. But what I was really thinking was that there wasn't another dungeon room ahead that puts us in danger.
Later, after a LOT of walking, we stumbled across a door. I gulped, as this was what exactly I did not want to happen. But then I thought it could be a good thing, but I doubted it.

Ishi’s hurried footsteps made slight clacking noises as he strode through the crisp autumn air. He would have stayed and enjoyed the sights and sounds, the leaves crunching under his steps, the gorgeous array of oranges and reds and yellows that arrived and departed with the most beautiful season, but he knew, and everyone knew, he could not. The night was a terrible and dangerous time, where armed muscle watched every street, every house.

You see, this town was crooked. The mob reigned supreme, and all who stood out were crushed under its thumb. The police force was as bent as a rainbow, and the citizens were as brave as mice. Crates of drugs were carted straight through the city gates under the impassioned eye of greedy politicians. The city gates were a new addition, too. Imposing, iron, and impassable, they formed the only entrance and exit to a veritable gulag. The workers and citizens toiled along, subsisting under the pretension of normalcy inside the confines of an authoritarian rule, and any who didn't were made into a harsh example.

Ishi still remembered. He would never forget the screaming and crying. As long as he lived, the images would stay with him. The blood dripping, the all too audible smattering as the bullet sprayed gore across the ground. The limp, motionless body. And the shocked silence as Ishi's partner fell to the ground, dead. Ishi blinked back tears, remembering the great man he had once embraced and loved. He shook his head. He had to focus; it was getting dangerously close to the officially imposed curfew. He made a right and continued down the path , striding quickly now. A ugly, bald brute lounged in a lawn chair with an assault rifle casually dangling from his relaxed hand. He sneered at ishi and gave him a taunting smirk. Ishi ignored him. He had no choice.

It hadn’t always been like this. This town used to have justice, order, a real society. There were no criminals or beggars, no walls or restrictions or weapons. Everything changed, however, with the advent of rittu’s bakery. At first glance, rittu was a fat, jovial man, with an appetite for life and delicious food. But beneath his shining smile hid the malice of a murderer.

Accidents started to happen around town. People suddenly poisoned in a peaceful world, shattered. Other bakeries mysteriously shut down, and bodies were found buried, cut apart. Unbeknownst to the population, rittu had a hulking, shadowy accomplice. Known only as “Fish,” the man was said to be hideous, with slimy skin and a sibilant hiss to his voice. He carried out his murders in the greatest secrecy: in the shadows. His methods were cruel and his character was crueler. No one knew who or what he was, but all feared to mention his very existence.

Soon the town lost its glimmering aura of happiness. They looked to a government capable of upholding the rule of law. The previous mayor, a bumbling fool of a man by the name of siku, was cast out by a mob fueled by terror and anger, an unreasoning mass of one irrational mind. Everyone was afraid and suspicious of each other. And still, all felt safe around rittu. He was a comforting, virile presence in the face of despair and danger. The people rallied around him, and on the backs of his supporters he rose to prominence. He proposed radical changes; he wanted stricter government controls and city measures. The public agreed wholeheartedly. But rittu conned them. He constructed a whole new government made of nothing but loyal servants in his pocket. Taxes increased in the name of justice. A wall was put up, so suddenly it seemed as if it was overnight. Slowly, clearly, the murders began to slow, and then stop. Suspects were apprehended, though no prosecutions ensued. The population rejoiced. They unknowingly, obliviously, handed rittu his kingdom upon a silver platter. By the time the realization that they were prisoners hit, it was too late. New rules were introduced, and examples were made. As all truly beheld the evil of rittu, the townspeople wept. He had given hope and then ground their dreams and lives into the dirt. He ruled with an iron fist, laughing at the pitiful slaves he prodded for his amusement. Everyone was reduced to poverty while the ruling elite lived in luxury.

From that moment, Ishi’s life had been one constant torment. Enraged yet helpless, he watched his world come crumbling down around him. The joys of youth turned to ash in his mouth. He and everyone around him had been condemned to a pitiful, meaningless existence at the hands of a tyrannical overlord. All he had strived for was wiped away casually, as a man would swat a fly. But Ishi survived. And he lived, and he hungered, and sought any opportunity to restore the freedom he once had.

However, Ishi himself was shunned, mocked, and avoided. For he was a homosexual, and his partner, Jalis, were both ostracized from the village because of it. Yet Jalis was a strong man of fierce moral character and confident outlook. Buoyed and encouraged by each other, they swore to bring down rittu and everyone with him.

The next day, armed with nothing but a stolen knife, Jalis attempted to sneak into rittu’s residence. Ishi followed a short distance behind with a sharpened branch that had fallen from a tree. They did not understand exactly how far in over their heads they really were. They crawled, bent over, along the grass leading behind the property. Suddenly, a blaring light shone into their eyes, blinding them.

“Whooo are youuu?” demanded a hissing voice.

“Ishi, RUN” screamed Jalis. Ishi and Jalis took off, sprinting as quickly as they could through the darkness, afraid for their lives.

The man smiled to himself, took careful aim, and pressed his finger against the trigger. The shot rang out into the night, alerting all the guards on the property. It also tore into Jalis’ leg, bringing him down into a screaming fit of pain. He rolled over once, twice, attempted to get up, and collapsed back down. Ishi turned to look at him, eyes wide with terror.

“Get out of here, or he’ll get you too,” gasped Jalis. “You know what he’ll do to you. You’ve seen what he does. Leave me, or we’re both dead.”

Wracked by guilt, indecision, and fear, Ishi hesitated, unable to tear his eyes away from the gaping hole in Jalis’ calf.

“Go, damnit!”

Adrenaline burning through his veins, his heart pumping like a car engine piston, Ishi sprinted into the night. He heard shouts behinds him and looked over his shoulder. He saw Jalis shout “This is for my father, Eleeleth, you miserable fuck!” Jalis’ arm lashed out, knife in hand, whereupon it buried itself into the ankle of Fish.

“AAAGCK!” screamed Fish. He fell on top of Jalis, and the two wrestled over the knife. He saw the knife rise into the air fall, rise again, and then bury itself into the stomach of a silhouette. He heard an indescribable wail, a horrible gurgling cry into the night. His entire existence devolved into running away, to seeing where he should go and how to get there, to surviving. He heard noises behind, and never stopped once. Where could he go? Was Jalis dead? Did they know who Ishi was? Thoughts and fragments of thoughts chaotically spiraled around in his terrified mind like balls in a pinball machine. Nothing mattered anymore except the here and now.

I slowly opened the door to find a room with a table and 3 glasses, 1 with red liquid, 1 with green liquid, and one with aqua liquid. I thought to myself, "Oh, this must be a taste as there are 3 liquids." After I realized what is going to happen, a deep, dark voice spoke to me.
The voice spoke with a firm tone, speaking the words "Choose 1 bottle, the correct one will let you live, the wrong one will kill you." I now realized my face started to glow, and knew immediately that I would use a new power/sense. I looked at the red bottle and in front of my eyes appeared the words, "WARNING: THIS WILL KILL YOU IF YOU DRINK IT!" I did the same with the others and the same words appeared. I realized this was a trick, and spoke loudly. I said "This is a trick that will get me killed any bottle I choose. I refuse to drink any of these liquids." The voice sounded kind of disappointed after I said this, and replied with "Very well, you may go on."
Then a door right in front of us appeared out of thin air, and my face stopped glowing, and the door swung open. We all continued, and then I realized the next challenge would involved smell, as I had not used it yet. I wondered what challenge would involve smell, and did not think of anything. We went to sleep after that because I was drained of energy, and I don't think the others slept though because I think it was daytime. I woke up a few hours later, laying a bit away from where I originally slept. The others were gone, footsteps leading forward. I became severely confused, wondering why they would leave me unless they needed to for that particular reason.
After waiting a few hours, I became very, very concerned. I ate a small breakfast and started tracking the footsteps, after packing some things on the way in case I needed the things for this quest to find my friends. I jogged at a certain pace a for a while, then rested for about 5 minutes. Then after more jogging and resting, I broke into a sprint because this was starting to worry me horridly. I contiued to repeat resting and running, until I found a huge door looming over me. I pulled the handle and the door gently glided open, creaking loudly. I slowly moved my legs, shaking, ready to face whatever lies behind the door. I walked in. and when I saw what was inside, I just fell apart.
I saw my friends hanging from a machine that held them there, very still, and their bodies looked pale. There was a lumbering person in black clothing, and spoke "To save your friends and leave this place, you need to be blindfolded for the challenge to begin. Suddenly a blindfold appeared on my face, covering every centimeter of my vision. You now must identify your friends, out of 50 objects that have no meaning, 22 of them being deadly to you and your friends. I realized that my nose and eyes glowed, realizing I have 2 sense powers to use this time. I could smell their scents, identifying where they were in the room, and using sight to navigate through the maze of objects to them.
I picked them one by one, double-checking that I don't accidently pick an object instead of my friends, as it may be deadly as well. After I was SURE I picked them, the voice spoke once again, this time is a croaky voice. "You have defeated me.....Nobody has defeated me before, nobody." "Very well, you and your friends may leave, if you wish, as you have defeated the 5 Challenges of The Underground." With a snap of his giant hand, a door appeared and I saw light. My friends were realeased and returned to normal as if nothing had happened. I grabbed them and dragged them up as they became concious. They rubbed their heads and asked "What happened, and where are we?" I explained what had just happened and where we were.
They were grateful for me saving them and getting them out of that place. Katara thanked me in private because she hadn't seen her family in weeks, maybe months after she vanished. I saw a man and asked for the time and he said the same exact time when we left, and it seemed time had stopped for the time we were in there. I told her that, and then told my friends. They seemed greatly relieved. We walked home and discussed it majorly, and in that conversation Katara told us that she lived down the street and I thought that was a coincidence, and hoped we wouldn't go back, and other kids from our street didn't stumble upon that horrible place. I walked home and continued thinking with Largo and Johnny, as they were at my house in the first place.
Johnny found the key on the floor and we decided it was best to bury the key, but deeper than before, hoping nobody who came here would find it. I hoped we wouldn't go back either, for any reason. I wanted it to be the end, but that wasn't the case. We continued our day after the months in there, and I asked a question to Largo and Johnny. "If we had died in there, and time was stopped, would we be dead and time would be frozen forever, or what would happen?" We all just shrugged, not wanted to know the answer, as it chilled us hugely. And that was the story of that day. (Or months in the ground.)
