Probably some sort of explosion or other what not cataclysmic disaster...

THe world will end in one of the following:

1) We will kill ourselves. (we are fucking up our enivronment, and the days are getting colder.
2) Something deeply affects earth's atmosphere causing a weird type of explosion. ( i think this is mentioned somewhere)
3) The Last days/God's coming (this is what i believe, since im christian)

If we humans die, the world won't end.

If all living things die, the world won't end.

If earth ceases to exist, it means it ends.

The way it will probably end is by sun running out of hydrogen to burn, becoming a red giant and swallowing the earth.

The world will end when it does.
