Ban of burqa
Sup.
Writing this from my iPod with mega slow connection so I can't be arsed to provide sources (would be nice if someone did it for meh) but I know it's an ongoing debate in Europe. Recently I heard they are going through with it in england. So yeah. What do toribashians think?

Personally I am in favor, despite normally having liberal views. Reason being the security issues that come with allowing people to conceal their identity in public, and few articles of clothing do it better than burqas I think. If I wore a hockey mask and a hood in a public place I would be asked to take it off, and pointing to the fact that it is an ancient (insert cult) tradition would not suffice to keep it on. I am fine with burqas being worn on private properties, houses of worship or Halloween, however
Hell no. Banning an article of clothing that has religious uses is a terrible idea. It will piss off tons of people and limit personal freedom.
i have a totally post modern tattoo of a scalene triangle.

<DeadorK> it shall be in mine as well
The burqa should be banned in places only where it would be a hazard to the wearer and people around; i.e., in a McDonalds, where the long garment could snag on a fat fryer and easily splash on other workers, or in a factory environment, where it could easily be caught in machinery. The workplace should be a religion-free environment anyway, so that's the only place I could think of where it would actually be necessary to ban them.

What about places like department stores or banks? If I was a worker there I would be unnerved to see someone whose whole upper body is concealed walking in. It would render them immune to security camera tapes should they commit a crime and escape. Hell, you can't even tell if it's a woman under there or a man, making identifying them that much more difficult.

Precisely. It has religious significance, yes, but in a western civilization it has no use.
Women wear burqas in the middle east because it is law. It is not law here.
infamous
Perhaps middle eastern women don't just wear the burqas because their law tells them to? Perhaps they wear it because the believe that they should wear it because of their religion. We're sort of venturing into individual rights here. As a believer in negative liberty I believe it's their right not be interferred with. Let them wear their silly little cloths.
