the est and worst guitarists by your opinion. and why?
cool guitarists:
-steve vai (his guitarplay is unique and extremely skillfull)
-randy rhoads (r.i.p.) (some of the most easy but epic riffs ever made were from him)
-ry cooder (see movie crossroads, he has skill but his music itself sucks)

lame guitarists:
-dragonforce guys (comaan it aint guitarplay its lame and without style)
-everyone who plays guitarhero and becomes a wanabe guitarist. (should be clear)
-everyone that plays guitarhero and thinks he can play guitar becouse of it.

note: this is ones opinion and everyone is free to give his or hers (no swearing allouwed) and no replies like: but (fill in a guitarist) sucks he/she cant play!!! and stuff... ;P
And as allways,

Good:
(Obvious ones)
Jimi Hendrix

Stevie Ray, jimi (Lol, hurr), Tommy Emmanuel, Manitis de Plata, and one guy who plays local to me who's basically a modern day copy of SRV (srs) are the best imo.

Jimmy page is very good, but incredibly sloppy live and fucks up a lot, same with frusciante really.

The shittiest players would be the youtube whores and all the metal faggots who learn metallica covers but can't string 3 notes together if they don't have 'tabs'.
So, I've seen some pretty ignorant statements here.
The guitar players from dragon force, most likely have more skill than you guys will ever have. It takes talent to tap out those solos.
Hm. The best guitar players werent the blues guys. Its all just improv, which is great and all, but all you have to know is your blues scales.
And, @ CaptainSmegma, who are you to say a guitar player is bad, because he learns all of his music with TABs?
Its just like reading sheet music, minus the rhythm.
To conclude, my favorite guitar player would have to be Hendrix. Im not saying hes the best, just my favorite.

Thanks.

To address your flawed points in order, good sir:

Firstly, the blues guys are fucking incredible. You have clearly never played blues at any decent level, or listened to enough of it to realise that there's far more going on than playing up and down a scale. I doubt half the metal guys could pull off licks like someone like SRV does either.

Secondly, ther's nothing WRONG with using tabs or sheet music at all-that's not what i said.. I was referring to players who fail to develop their ear due to relying on these resources too heavily. I've seen many, many players who can play all the notes to a song in time and sound boring and shit. Why? because they have no idea which notes to emphasize, where to put the little slides into notes, curls and ghost notes that separate the man from the boys, and couldn't improvise or jam to save their lives. You are probably in this category, i'm guessing?

So in colclusion, it's interesting that your favorite player would be Hendrix, who's music is rooted in the blues, improvisation, and learning music by ear, and not relying on someone else telling him what the notes are.
I would suggest that you acquire some real knowledge about music, specifically music made on the guitar, before trying to fake expertise and pretending to 'enlighten' us.

good day to you.

Depends how complicated you make it.
In all keys at he basic level for a 12 bar youve got
I I I I
IV IV I I
V IV I I

But then you can add ii Vs and tritone subs like.

I IV bV Vmaj7 I7
IV ii bii I vi ii
V ii iii vi ii V

And even thats pretty basic, I guess. A bit shit too because I've over done it on purpose

Well that's the choice of chords you've got - which in theory is pretty easy to grasp, although realistically you'll be throwing in all sorts of fills and turnarounds, which keeps your hands busy enough, and there are actually some 12 step numbers that can be a real bastard to play, take:

which is pretty much a basic 12 bar based off e7, and although the e7 is substituted for an e7sharp9th it's pretty straight up 1-4-5 so not too hard to grasp from the theory side, but a total bitch to play.

Then of course you've got blues lead, which can be as simple or complex as you want it to be, but is really about feel more than anything else- and if someone doesn't have a good ear and the technique to back it up, it's damn obvious when they play.
