I wouldn't call those bands Heavy Metal, Just metal (In my opinion). The only exception is Slayer.

Heavy Metal is a music genre, it's abbreviation is "Metal".
New Metal, Power Metal, New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Punk etc. are subgenres.
Slayer is Thrash Metal, ACDC is hard rock and no, the founders of metal are more around Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin...
As for that poll:
Metallica is Thrash Metal
Iron Maiden is the New Wave of British Heavy Metal
Black Sabbath is Early Metal
Judas Priest is a bit special but can also be Early Metal
Dio is Power Metal
Megadeth is Thrash Metal
I'm not familiar with Saxon

Slayer is Thrash Metal

Also, talking about heavy metal and not including Deep Purple, Motіrhead, Twisted Sister or Alice Cooper makes this thread even worse.

They are all great original band's.
i cant choose just one,but i'm pretty sure Dio was singing in pubs long before AC/DC(no proof but).
But i would have to say that Dio had the best vocals of all,so i will pick them.

Megadeth are consistently epic and Rust in Peace is not only one of the best metal albums of all time, but best albums of all genres.

Also, thread needs more Mercyful Fate/King Diamond.

I love Dio to death, and he is a good vocalist, but he hasn't got a scratch on King.

Well everybody has their opinions on Heavy Metal, Which makes this thread hard to follow.

I personally prefer Rammstein.
