ATI Hdmi sound output
hey
I got a new av-reciver (pioneer vsx-420 k).
But I can't get it working with surround sound (5.1) so I decidet to try the hdmi output of my ati hd 5750. I connected the reciver and the grafics card but my computer says that it isn't connected and I can't get sound. Is there anything I have to install?

my system :
Asus M2N-E
amd 9900 black edition
4gb ram
sapphire ati 5750
windows vista 32bit

I think u need to connect u're sound card with u're graphics card so that the sound goes thru HDMI as well. As I understand this is done with a 2 pin digital cable, u're sound card need to have it, if not u need a new sound card.

but why would u do this? just use a S/PDIF out from u're sound card, best way to do it
wishful eyes deceive me
I can't really use my sound card (I have only one cable at home..)
and as much as I know S/PDIF is only 2.0 stereo isn't it? (I haven't really much expiriance with it... if there is a way to get it 5.1 pls tell me^^)

well u can not pass the sound form u're graphics card on, since the gfx card has nothing to do with sound.
U are right about s/PDIF it can pass only 2.0 uncompressed sound, so it is not an option in u're case.
u need the 2 pin cable to connect u're sound and gfx card if the sound card supports it

other than that I can't help u much coz I am using 2.0 speakers myself and don't know much about 5.1

hm, It looks like Dolby surround sound/DTS can pass to s/PDIF so I think its u're best choice

actually missuse my graphics card does hdmi audio output when i run it to my tv through hdmi, you just have to enable it through the drivers in windows. i have a gtx 460 though.

it does this without connecting any other connectors to the videocard also as it has an onboard sound controller

the ati 5750 might have a different way it passes sound through hdmi than an nvidia card so i couldn't tell you exactly how to do so but i know it is possible

there could be several things to try such as messing with your ati drivers, your 5.1 receiver, or the windows sound section.

all i can say is without more information i cannot give you an exact answer on how to fix it.
You don't say?

Thats what I mean...
I'm kinda sure that ATI support sound but I can't really find the drivers (as much as I know it is a realtake driver). I tryed some different drivers but they wouldn't work as well.

the drivers are ati drivers not realtek at least they should be. try going to game.amd.com or whatever the website is and see if there's an hdmi audio driver there

actually i just stumbled on this, it might help you

oh, cool had no idea,
so the gfx card acts like a sound processor or it just passes raw sound?
thx for info will try it soon

i believe they actually have an onboard sound card since they don't use s/pdif input or any other kind of input for the audio but i'm not sure exactly
