Model shocked that modelling is about looks.
Indian model was told that it may be hard for her to find work because she was not Caucasian.

So here is the topic; is it OK for people to shout "racist!!!!1" whenever someone points out the difference between races, or should we just get over the fact that we are different?

Is it OK to turn a model away because their particular look is not in demand? Is it OK to turn away a 3 foot 'little person' from the NBA because they would have trouble dunking? Is it OK to turn away an obese person from the Olympics just because they can't run fast enough?

Is anti-racism more detrimental than racism?
"There are some exemptions in the case of artistic performance but it is not believed that modeling agencies would fit into this category."

How is modeling not an artistic performance?

Employers are only looking for one thing; who would put there business at an advantage. The average joe relys on his resume to impress the employer and put them at an advantage to the other people applying for the job. Other jobs require the potential employee to have different qualities. It's just commercial advantages not racism, if the modelling agency was able to sell just as many clothes they would hire in a heartbeat.

It's funny what "racism" is today. Fact is, we look different. We act different. We are different. Discrimination is inevitable because we all have different cultures.

People need to get over themselves.

They shouldn't have mentioned race. How she looks is a definite factor to her modelling, but there shouldn't have been a definite statement about what other modelling businesses are looking for.

@Thorn: The racism here is about when an employer determines a difference for hiring is arbitrarily due to someones race.
Here it's hard to determine, but racism exists. See: UCLA girl rant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Johj5WEYzZo)

@Gorman:
Is it OK to turn a model away because their particular look is not in demand?
Yes. A look is a look. A look is not entirely race dependent.

Is it OK to turn away a 3 foot 'little person' from the NBA because they would have trouble dunking?
Yes, the job requires abilities that need to be fulfilled, and the best candidate that can fill them should be hired.

Is it OK to turn away an obese person from the Olympics just because they can't run fast enough?
Yes, see explanation above.
Racism is wrong and right, in different ways. Racism is stupid that we say all humans are the same, even though, as mentioned, all races have different traits, cultures, beliefs etc.

However, the real deal with people against racism is when we say that the races are unequal to each other. For example, americans in 1963 gave african americans no rights, thus being racist. These days, racism doesn't really exist imo.. I mean yeah, the woman was denied because of her race, but thats kind of fair, isn't it?? It's just like somebody with any quality or trait that isn't wanted in this specific area applying and getting denied, there's no need to take offence to it, it's just the way business works.
racism for pretty inexcusable, especially when it comes to jobs. you should hire someone based on there qualifications for the job. the color of their skin or even where they were born should not matter in this day and age. if a guy can fix computers better than anyone else he should be hired because of that, not denied because he is black or white or anything like that.

i'm going to assume that you didn't read the story, and neither did i, but from the responses i've gathered that they simply did not need or want an indian woman, maybe because that wouldn't fit the look they were going after. she decided to get into a fickle business, dealwithit.gif. this reminds me of 6 month pregnant women complaining about not getting hired, or any sort of "discrimination" or even "racism". just sue them already, attentiongrrl.

When everything else fails, pull out your trusty race card, for everyone to see.
If you still don't get what you want then, you might at least hurt offender's reputation!
I don't believe that any human being should be racist. No matter what skin color. But there is a line between being racist and being smart. If you decline a person for a job because of their skin color or ethnicity, that's being racist. But on the other hand, if you decline a person from being a surgeon because they have Parkenson's desease, that's being smart. That's my standpoint.
