School Suspensions
Ok so recently my friend was suspended from school for something silly. He did something small like laugh in class and was sent to the dean. He had gotten in trouble before and it was a buildup so he got a 3 day suspension. Yeah his parents were angry. Yeah he was upset. But really he missed 3 days of school.

Im not saying that i wouldnt want to miss 3 days of school, but whenever im sick and miss school its always hard for for me to catch back up and results in a failed test or something of sorts.

So why should the school deliberately have children miss school when really all they did was something minor? This puts more stress on the kid that is in trouble because he has to work double to catch back up. I dont quite understand this, i mean the school is working to get the kids to have a good education, not make them kill themselves right?

So what do you think?
catching up and all the extra stress is a punishment.i think that they are correct.
After going through all of that, you arent going to laugh in class again

Perhaps, but if Bloobing is not exaggerating, it is something as small as laughing in a class.

Twice this year, I got in trouble for laughing. On the first offense, I got after school detention, and on the second, I got written up.

It seems the rules are becoming too strict. I think that Bloobing wants us to discuss if suspension was a valid punishment to enforce upon the student in such a meaningless situation.

Perhaps if they were doing something like taking a test, I could see him getting detention of some sort. But suspension is way too far.

It all depends on the situation he was in. Whether it was a test or just doing some work. Obviously laughing in a test would prove more punishable than a set piece of work.
However i do disapprove of getting a suspension over this. History really shouldn't matter, especially if its getting suspended over something petty like laughing in class.
The teacher is probably trying to inculcate the idea that action determines consequence.
Examples of conditions:
1) A student spray paints a school hallway. Teacher gives him money as his consequence. His mind adds together that Him+Spray paint=Money. Probably decides to do it again due to his motivational reward.

2) A student spray paints a school hallway. Teacher does absolutely nothing. Student feels the teacher doesn't care and figures it is a fine thing to do. Probably does it again, but has no motivation to do so.

3) A student spray paints a school hallway. Teacher gives him a punishment of three days suspension. Student recognizes that doing this will only bring upon him stress, parental disapproval and loss of supported intelligence. Probably does not do it again. This also spreads the message to the other students not to do this as well.

See, it is kind of an extreme punishment for just laughing, however it was a stimulant to convey the message not to do that.
DAMN.

yes, teaching, teaching kids a lesson for the real world. If your in a meeting and you never had your shit together to not cut up in that meeting, you could very well lose your job.And a teachers work is hard enough already,if she let every kid slide with breaking the rules,it would be chaotic.

Getting detention for laughing is plain and simple retarded. Laughing in class is a common thing at every school you go to. If the teachers would learn to be more fun and so people would learn a lot better.

I completly agree. In tests I'd say it's ok to get it. But in regular class that's just patethic.

You obviously had a extreme strict childhood. But I somewhat agree though. Every day several people laugh in class and it's not being taken care off. As I live in a different country as most of you, it's not strict for anything else than the true shit you need to follow. Such as alcohol in school, drugs, bullying etc.
