My dad gave me his computer since he doesn't use it anymore and I want to format it for two main reasons

1. All the files are useless to me
2. I heard it has a "virus"

My question is if I format my local disk will I lose system 32 and have to re-install windows

if so is there another way to get rid of all the files

btw I do not have the installation CD

well i think to reformat u need the CD :/ ...

do u have the serial key for the windows u want installed, if so u do not need the original CD just download the windows from anywhre. and input your original cd key.

yes if you format you lose everything on that hard drive and would need to reinstall windows.
not having the cd could be a problem.

alternatively, download several free antivirus' like avg, avast, kaspersky demo and clean out the virus.
uninstall programmes you dont want from the control panel.
then manually sift through and get rid of files you dont want.
then download and run Ccleaner
and defrag.

what he suggested is something you should do ever so often (once a month for example)
it helps, but sometimes u just have to format. Mostly depends on how sloppy the prev user of the PC was.

formats are great, its like running a whole new pc.
