I'm a bit of a conspiracy theory nut, of course I believe in evolution and it seems that we most likely evolved from the Homo Genus. I am also a believer of Genetic engineering...so what If we are from the Homo Genus, with a little bit of tweaking...you said yourself you're not going to find humans in outer space until we put them there ourselves. What if we were made here 100-200,000 or even as early as 50-70,000 years ago and left here...Homo sapien sapien still has a very controversial path of evolution, and I'm sticking with my we don't know shit, and anything is possible stance.
EDIT: Hi hanz0, for this argument the "OMG WHAT IF THIS WAS TRUE THAT WOULD BE SO COOL" stance is a valid argument in my opinion. This is how history is rewritten. To back up my argument I will say that space travel is possible, genetic engineering is possible, and the time span to undertake such immense projects is there. The only thing I'm missing is solid evidence, but theories such as these make it possible to find evidence that we weren't looking for. I apologize for my deviation from the topic. I was merely trying to say that I could see a past where A race of beings evolved way past the point of our evolution could be responsible for our type of evolutionary tools, like the technology to do what they have been doing for millions of years.

AGREED, but also the genetic diversity of everything on this planet isn't as diverse as we had thought 100 years ago, DNA is so similar in almost all forms of life. I don't think that we are going to be that different from "intelligent" aliens.

Still think we don't know much, and anything is possible.
