Is this still going to be a possibility or has it been scrapped? Because we were supposed to get it with 3.0 originally. So is this still a possibility for the future?

we were never promised 2vs2 etc but there was a rumor going around about it and turned out it acuatly was in 3.0

He simply edited the replays, its not hard to do, theres a variable in the "NEWGAME" string.

2 v 2 was coded into 3.0 (can nobody remember the multiplayer testing?) and is a quite real possibility. However soon or late it comes is entirely up to hampa and the dev team. Though I'm not sure you'd wanna have a gametype riddled with bugs now, would you?
