Tribute to the Great
There are many people in this world, some known more than others, whether it was for genocide, for being an incredible writer, or for even being the worst actor, but let's stick to the great for this one.

Who are the greatest to you?

Here is my list:-

Stephen King
Stephen King is labeled as one of the best horror writers of all time, and I can see why, I've read many of his books, and I really enjoy a good scare, and I mean a real scare, not two hours of screamers.
His books had many film adaptions, most known would be The Shining, directed by Stanley Kubrick, and staring the legend Jack Nicholson. The Shining to this day, is counted as the best horror film of all time.

Kurt Vonnegut
I was a bit skeptical about reading his books, his titles weren't exactly that catchy, after I gathered myself up, I picked the first book I saw with his name on it, Slaughterhouse-Five.
God damn. That man is a genius. I couldn't let this book drop from my hands.
I'm halfway through Cat's Cradle right now, so...yeah.

Steven Spielberg
Hmm, where do I begin with this guy? I know, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Jaws, Indiana Jones.
I tend to not pay attention to the shit created by him like, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, and Twister. I'd rather think that an alien has impersonated him and created these horrible abominations of cinema.
Also, not forgetting our very own nostalgic cartoons, ah Freakazoid, Animaniacs, and Pinky and the Brain, I love you Steve.

Ludwig Van Beethoven
C'mon, seriously?

Richard Stone
One of my favorite composers of all time, and my avatar for the time being.
If you don't know him, Richard Stone was a composer and a song writer in the 80's and 90's. He hit big fame when Steven Spielberg asked him to make music and songs for some Warner Bros. cartoon he was producing, and the rest is history. Richard Stone and his team put together some of the cleverest and catchiest theme songs that ever hit TV.
Remember this classic?

How about this?

Stone's team didn't just do theme songs, they did all the music in the shows, every melody, and the only song that ever made you want to learn geography

Anyone who made you actually try to educate yourself without you knowing it, must be doing something right.
Sadly, Richard Stone lost his life to pancreatic cancer in 2001, at the age of 47. Leaving a legacy of great music behind, luckily, he is survived by these incredible tunes, with great music, fantastic lyrics, and ingenious writing.

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera
Their names are probably not known to some, but there are two names everyone in the world has heard of.
Tom and Jerry.
Hell yeah.
My first show, my favorite show, my favorite characters, my childhood.
The original Tom and Jerry, to me it's the best, coming very very close second is Chuck Jones's, and frankly, Gene Deitch's was shit to me. Yes I know he had a tight budget, and the animation wasn't that good, but I wasn't looking at the animation, I payed more attention to the humor and the progress, in Hanna-Barbera's, Tom had many successes, of course Jerry had more, but Tom got the spotlight too. So was Chuck Jones's, but in Gene Deitch's, it was always Jerry, and that man WHO HAD HIS FACE SHOWN.
----------------------------------------

Off the top of my head, Heath Leadger, Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, George Carlin, Anthony Hopkins, Thomas Harris are also some of the greats, but I really don't think I need a have a paragraph or two talking about them, will probably write one about Nicholson or Carlin, maybe.
----------------------------

So who are the awesome, who are the great, who are the truly remarkable to you?

Steven Spielberg and Richard Stone are both awesome. Even if one is signifigantly less known.

I could name off a whole bunch of people, but there are just so many. I'll compile a small list and post it here sometime.

*Edit* Definitely Johannes Gutenberg, since he invented the printing press and basically made mass production possible.

That was going to be near the top of my list.

Kurt Vonnegut was my neighbor.
He came to my mom's birthday party and ate cake.
I just finished reading Cat's Cradle.
Amazing book.
