CMon's Weekly #5 - Gotta Catch Em' All!
Heard in the confession booth the other day:

Sinner: "Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. Recently I have found my self succumbing AGAIN to various works of the Devil. These appear for me in the form of colourful animals with annoying, usually high-pitched voices and superpowers so badass that they'd make Alex Mercer blush. I can't get the little bastards out of my head. What should I do?"

Vicar: "My son, the Lord has compassion for us all, but in this case I'm afraid the only thing that will do is a shotgun blast straight to the face."

...

Er...Pokemon then! Actually, I've heard it's Pokémon because for some reason, the little dot thingy over the e is really fucking important. You guys might be thinking that I've sunk into some new low, writing about Pokémon - and yes! You're probably right. Like I suggested, the obnoxious little fuckers won't get out of my head.

Pokémon was the shiznit about ten years back and onwards for a couple of years. Trading cards, GameBoy games and Anime, the whole package, if you missed out on any of these, you were officially a loser. I recall having about 800 trade cards by the end of the epidemic, and I was in the habit of rising and shining way early on Saturdays because Jetix aired Pokémon at seven o'clock in the morning. But now I'm 19, and I have no interest in the stuff.

...atleast that's how it should be. Sure, I've been having minor setbacks in the form of playing through a couple of the new versions, but none as large as the one I had when I figured I'd try my luck on Pokémon Platinum.

I had not tested out Pearl or Diamond because I self-righteously thought that "nah, this shit can not possibly get to me any more" and then I would boot up my big manly PS3 or buffed-up PC to play some masculine games such as CALL OF DUTY 4 or SAINTS ROW 2 or OPERATION FLASHPOINT. You know, games where you shoot stuff. Aaaand, one day I was watching a Zero Punctuation review of Scribblenauts. Although he absolutely butchered the game (as is the custom), the concept itself seemed so interesting I just had to try it.

Problem was, I didn't have a DS. So, I acted against my conscience (conscience? what conscience?) and got myself an emu. Curiously enough, two bonus games followed with it.

One of them was some Mario game. Forget about Mario, I get enough of Italian plumbers with homoerotic mustaches in the daytime.

The other, was, as you might guess, Pokémon Platinum. A while later I found myself nurturing a Shinx, a strange-looking cat-thing that I decided to nickname "Shizzle".

Above: A severe case of weaponized cuteness. Dawwww.

The following days were a nightmare of abstinence and addiction. (Not considering the fact that I also encountered some real-life troubles in the meantime.) I had propelled into a downward spiral consisting of battles, berries, Budew's and...b-thundershocks and was getting rather worried. When I thought it couldn't get any worse, I encountered one of my old friends on the wonder that is MSN. He is an anime freak. And he has also moved to Japan.

He sent me links to the first episodes of the Pokémon Anime. I was...sceptical to say the least. Was it possible that I'd fall under the spell of some child's show? Hah, no way, so naturally, I did what every sane manly heterosexual Scandinavian male would do.

I clicked it.

I exited my desk a good while later, just to realize that I had just been watching about six hours of Pokémon Anime non-stop. It might be the reminiscence, it might be the fact that it was in original Japanese with subs, but it drew me in like the butthole of a prostitute suffering from reverse flatulence. And I'll probably go back for more.

This is bad. This is terrible. I have exams nowadays, along with not being in the best of spirits, so I REALLY don't need to fall into the sweet arms of a time-wasting addiction. Especially not the kind that I can't tell any of my friends about, they'll think that I've joined the dark (pink) side. Shutting addictions out in favour of important stuff is easy when you work on an oil rig, but if you require a computer with internet access to do the important stuff, it suddenly gets a lot harder. That combined with the fact that I have the willpower of an inebriated half-man half-collie in a forest made out of lampposts, makes this a difficult time for me.

I can only hope that I'll grow tired of the games soon, or that the anime propel into spinoff/filler-shit quickly, or else I'm gonna be doomed. Atleast you'll know in the future who the guy standing outside of Ken Sugimori's office with the sign "YOU RUINED MY LIFE, BITCH!" is.

Yep. That'll be me.

Sincerely,
~CMon, I like to dress up as Kangaskhan and do naughty things to Squirtle plushies

Oh how I love reading these.

The games are so much fun though, I bought the newest one.
I was never one for the shows though, they just never caught my attention
In my opinion, Anime has its, how should i call it, charm or somehting. It just attracts people who watch them.
Of course the other ones are like "ewww anime, fyach!" but then hey, we all need 2 sides. Also when you show an anime to these, they secretly download all the series.
Even the most crazy ones can be fun to watch, and once you have fallen into the trap of watching an episode, it gets a lot worse.

I sort of had the same reaction with the naruto series back then, I was just curious what's it about, and watched a few episodes, then I noticed that I'm dowloading all the series and cant wait till the next one gets downloaded.
Then wen I saw all of the released episodes (took be about 2 weeks or more), I felt like "What the heck, I WANT MOAR!".
Then I've started to download other animes such as Bleach, Inuyasha, Death Note, Hellsing etc.

It made me watch the screen for at least 15 hours daily, and I couldnt even do my job.

Then suddenly my PC broke and I couldnt watch any more anime...

That made me forget all about it. Not sure if thats good or bad, I dont say I didnt enjoy watching and that I wont continue watching after my PC gets fixed, but for now, I think for the sake of time, this is the best thing.

My name has developed a stereotype that I like Pokemon and Pikachu... Not fucking true.

I'm not saying I absolutely HATE Pokemon, but I liked that shit when I was like 6 years old. When I made my Toribash account my Polish friend was with me. I asked him how to say genitals in Polish (for reasons unkown) and he said the translation for it is "pika". I thought for a brief moment that I would be ridiculed on my choice of name, but then I shook my head and created the account. I was wrong.

I'm thinking about a name change, but I actually like the name pika (the Polish translation at least). However, the Pikachu shit is pretty annoying, so a name change is still an option for me. :l

I don't really see how Pokemon is addictive in the slightest way and I haven't had any interest in it for about 10 years and I don't plan on ever visiting it again. It's kids stuff it just gets old, even if it is anime.
I recently finished watching Death Note and I started (re)watching Full Metal Alchemist.

Also, be right back. Full Metal Alchemist time. :v

PS: Epic weekly threads, CMon.
pure epic. i really hate pokemon and i hate the show but the game,.....well...its a time waster that i hacked.

I like pokemon too, haha. Who would have thought, eh?
Used to be really into them as a kid. The games are good RPGs in their own right, albeit little has changed from originals. Last one i played was emerald, i think.

And i would still sometimes download an episode if i have a shitty day.
I find the show, in all it's childish silliness (and sometimes outright stupidity), has a somewhat therapeutic effect on me, like some mind-altering drug. It puts you into alternate reality, with it's little problems and little conflicts.

Now we'll both bear the shame, Cmon xD
nothing wrong with anime or pokemon, but I'll stick to Jeeves and Wooster right now.

I remember playing that on my good ol gameboy colour, me and my brother figured out how to start with all the starting guy's........

yep, good ol pokemon, hipmatizing americain kids since 1989.
My seniority means you should probably just agree with everything I say

Since, 1996, actually.

Sheesh, I shouldn't even know stuff like this.

don't worry, it's in the first paragraph and 2nd line of the wiki page.

Everyone has one spot in their brain where they know endless amounts of useless knowlegde.

My spot is just general shit.
