Friend of mine lent me one of their albums, so i go home, pop it into WMP, and listen while the tracks are being ripped. about 2 minutes later the song loops. I semi-consciously deduct that the second song simply hasn't been ripped yet and I have repeat turned on, so i happily return to my business. Another 2 minutes pass and i hear the same song AGAIN. This time i check WMP to see what's going on and i discover i'm on the third song.

Then i realized:

All of their songs are almost exactly the same. Same melody, same tone of voice, different lyrics. Buying one of their albums is like adopting a few twins. They start off with the same series of guitar strums and then deviate a bit in tone while keeping the same strum happening. No climax to the song, same droning voice the whole time, same guitar strum to every song, exact same starting tone.

To this i think: "What kind of shit is this? I'm friends with a person who listens to this?!"

And then i pay attention to the lyrics. It's kind of hard at first, because the droning mixes in with the perpetual guitar strum extremely well. Points for that, Bad Religion. But then i hear some of the most typical anti-system fuck the man mantra in any kind of music i've ever heard.

And then i thought: "Is this what the punk music genre is? have people been listening to shit music all this time just for the message*? Fuck punk music."

It's like they don't even give a shit, so why should I? if i was going to listen to music for the message i'd pick better music.

*Because that was his retort. "I listen to it for the message. It's punk because anyone can play it. There are slight deviations to the tone after the beginning notes." I couldn't fucking believe my ears.

i gave the CD back to him unbroken because i'm not a dick, but i didn't let him get away without some shit.


Tl;Dr: I got my hands on a BR album and it sucked. Discuss.

Bad Religion represents only a minor sub genre of Punk jumping into any conclusions by listening to one album (Probably No Substance ) is ignorant.
I myself don't like BR that much, but have to give them cred for being the godfathers of the mainstream MTV punk.

The new albums are IMO overproduced and lack the rawness of their earlier records. But that's just me.

Never heard this band before, and they don't sound like the kind of thing that would interest me judging by the video up there ^, BUT

who the hell are you to say a band or musician sucks? seriously, when you manage to put even one track together yourself that even *some people* can listen to then you.. well then you still aren't in a position to judge another musician. To me they sound a bit cheesy, and i'm not really grabbed by their music, but they can at least play their instruments and perform their own kind of music, which is more than you will ever achieve with your attitude, good sir.

I just went on youtube and listened to about 10 of their songs. I have to admit, the guitar has the SAME exact tone in every song, and the drums stay in the SAME exact tempo in 8 out of 10 of teh songs. Not to mention that the singers voice starts off almost every song the same way and the lyrics of each song have a pattern. Its basicly "I'm complaining about this." "I don't like it because of this reason." "You do this and that blah blah blah." "I want it this way." and thats about how every song goes.
