in the games ive played, i like bioshock series' voice acting and BFBC2's detailed sound FX
also the headshot PINNNGGGG in a few first person shooters, like when you hit their helmet
Thorn: ray fucking join like what the fuck are you doing you fucking cunt bitch

I have to say the tau in dark crusade (err RTS). They scream about everything. I don't mean like a manly roar, more like they are all dying horrible, painful deaths. They will get shot from some weak guy and scream "ARMAGEDON!".
...(akward pause)
what else...
That thunk you here from the crossbow in half life 2.
The science facility guy from starcraft. It = gay robot.
Just to shorten the list, any sound that comes from Valve, kicks ass.
To prove this point, here is a song that is nothing but TF 2 scout sounds.
And it KICKS, ASS
I honestly haven't played the best games in the world, but there is one sound that I just now thought of: In Burnout 3, when you hit a tanker with a crashbreaker, with a firetruck. If you could control bass on a TV, that would shake your room
The musical soundtracks for the Metal Gear Solid series :3 They do a great job of setting an ambient mood depending on what's appropriate for the setting and the recent events of the game. There's a certain haunting quality to some of the tracks: Gregson-Williams did a great job with the second, third, and fourth games, and the Konami in-house team had a pretty good lineup for the first game, too.
