What computer should I get; megathread
So instead of having this board flooded with threads asking what parts they should get.......

In the prices I'm not going to include a case.
I am also checking to make sure that any products, that I specify, are compatible.

Generic computers(everyday stuff, browsing internet, playing TB, etc.)

Look here for a pre-built in your price range.

Midranged computers
Do the same as above. It's just for if you dont feel like learning how to put a computer together.

Extreme Gaming computers... if you want to go custom.

500$
Motherboard: ASUS P5N-D LGA 750i (100$)
Processor: Core 2 duo 3.0Ghz ($170)
RAM: 2x1GB DDR2 800 ($55)
Graphics Card: I highly suggest THIS card ($135)
Power Supply: Any 500W supply will do. (~$50-60)

$1000
Motherboard: ASUS AM3 ($185)
Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 3.4Ghz ($180)
RAM: G.Skill DDR3 1600 ($100)
Graphics Card: 480GTX ($500)
Power Supply: 700W Modular ($90)
I'm not sure on the compatability on the graphics card on this one. Correct me if possible somebody. I dont deal with AMD very much.

Simply Extreme/Best possible/I have nothing better to do with my money than have a virtual life in Crysis/I just want to show people the best/$5870...lol, that's a graphics card
Motherboard: Some random $700 card ($700)
Processor: i7-980X 3.33Ghz X6 ($1000)
RAM: 6X4GB DDR3 1600 ($1200)
Graphics Card: Radeon 5970 Quad-Crossfire/4 of them ($2800)
Power Supply: 1000W+ with enough PCI-E cables for the graphics cards. (150-200)
At the very least you seem to not quite understand much about PSU's, summary of things you want, and should improve on:

  1. Hard Drives of any kind would be nice.
  2. Don't forget the OS
  3. Old Core 2s are inefficent, go for an AMD AM3 chip or the new core i.
  4. 2GB's, while tempting, won't support windows 7 very well.
  5. $700 graphics cards are not nessessary
  6. You don't need the best, seriously thats just a bit silly.
  7. The 980X is for 3D rendering and huge data manipulation, you don't need it for games, heck you don't need anything more than an i5 750 for games.
  8. Power supplies max out at 700W's for me, You don't need 1kW for a PC, trust me on that I'm an electrician :P
  9. 4 5970's... that would be 8 GPU's you realize that?
  10. Motherboards arn't cards.
  11. the 480GTX was not biult for $1000 PC's.
  12. OK I give up at this point, check out tom's hardware and their system builders marathon, they will show you real PC building.

Also technically thats not the very best build since you can get motherboards that support two i7 980X's :3

Also 'some random card' isn't very specific, see my latest build for how specific you should be: http://forum.toribash.com/showpost.p...17&postcount=4
