It can be for various reasons. Maybe they will encourage someone to pick up an instrument, to open up to a new genre of music, to be more sensible to certain musicians etc.
There are lots I could post but I would get annoyed at not remembering every one of them so I'm going to post the ones I've listened to recently. Also I won't put YouTube tags because they make the page gigantic.
I also tried avoiding the songs that everyone already has listened to but it's hard to judge.

Trying to find songs that all people might like is really really hard, I guess. Especially with old music.
the first half of you list, muffindo, is blocked by BMG in my country and the rest was just ok, nothing that I really would go for in my free time :v
But, I guess, its not as hard to find into other genres. there are allways songs in a genre that was nothing of what I thought it could be :P
for example; I didnt liked DnB a long time ago, because the beats where way to fast and the jungle style seems to exactly came out of there :P
and than I found
Since I like dark beats and melancholic tunes, I loved it so much.
than I tried to search more to find the diamonds of the genre and started to listin to it (evol intent, alot of remixes and now <3 Liquid DnB)
same happend with Dubstep. didnt liked it untill I randomly found Nero remixes and his masterpiece "Nero - innocense"
This is so melancholic and the beats are so awesome <333
Alphasonik showed me some really nice house tunes, "moonbeam" for example.
@2worlds: Maybe i should have made the title "Songs that everyone should have listened to"?
The objective is really to make other people discover music that you feel is seriously worth your time ; not to have a dick measuring contest between musical genres. I just thought I would make that clear for you.
@RedDevil: That's probably not something I would listen to occasionally since I mostly listen to music when I'm out and have a bit of ambient noise. It's a really rich sound and the chemistry between instruments was really original. Thanks for enlargening my culture.
@Aikinaro: I usually don't listen to dnb but this song really sounded different to the idea I had of it. I was pleasantly surprised It really is too bad that you have some of the songs I linked blocked but I guess the only ones that are radically different from the second part are Miles Davis (jazz fusion) and Paco de Lucia (flamenco) and those are both classics so it's not like you'll never come across them.
I'm with you in the basement. There are allways songs where it doesnt madder what kind of music you like. I'm glad that I found an example with that DnB song ;)
childish as I was, years ago, I sweared never ever to listin on anything that is not punk-rock :P but its so nice to have an open mind for music-directions. I have yet found masterpieces in allmost all genres and If im bored, I just change the genre
The Pillows - Stalker is a great song btw. Reminds me on Deftones, its not similar though
talkin about jazz, my HDD lacks of songs ins that genre.
and Pink Floyes is yet blocked in my country, but I know that song because my father is the biggest fan of songs with awesome guitarist. Roger, Springsteen, Pink Floyed are good examples for this thread ;) Led Zeppelin too, ofcourse
