I am alive

Trailer:

The game takes place in Chicago after a 10.30 earthquake destroys the city and the rescue team fails to save the survivors. The player has to evade enemies, keep from becoming dehydrated, find his missing girlfriend and stay alive in a crumbled city of hate. The player also has to evade citizens throughout the game, as they'll do anything in order to take his belongings, and use them as their own.

The player controls Adam in a first person perspective. The player can use various tactics to stay alive, including using an empty gun to threaten enemies, finding food and water around the city in order to keep Adam alive and healthy and use of actual live weapons, including pistols, machine guns, and grenades if found. The player can also drive abandoned vehicles, driving the vehicles will be in the traditional third-person view, and running or walking can be toggled between first and third person.

The game was first rumored to be in development in July 2008, when it was told that the Assassin's Creed producer, Jade Raymond, was working on a new game. It was later announced at E3 2008, along with a trailer. It was later revealed that Raymond was not working on the game.[4] Development of the game experienced various delays until it was confirmed that the original developers, Darkworks, would not be working on it any longer due to a "mutual decision" and that the studio had other obligations, and that the game would instead be finished at Ubisoft Shanghai's studio.[5] On August 2009, various screenshots of an old build of the game were leaked onto the Internet. [6] At E3 2010 Ubisoft released the second trailer of I Am Alive; the trailer showed more footage of the city of Chicago being destroyed by the earthquake and people fighting each other over the few remaining vehicles and supplies in the aftermath, at the end of the trailer a message is displayed saying that the game will be released in spring 2011.

Facts:

  • The game was previously known as 'Alive'.
  • I am Alive has been in development since 2005.

  • There will be sequel(s).
  • The game will be set in first person. Though, there is a possibility for third person gameplay elements. (To be confirmed)

  • The game is set in June 2009 and will take place in Chicago (whether partly or fully is unknown), where a 10.3 magnitude earthquake took place.

  • You play as a 27-year-old Adam Collins, an usual office worker.

  • After the earthquake you'll find yourself trapped in a high building. For 3 days on you will fight your way out in the open.

  • After the escape from the building, you'll discover that you're being trapped again. Comes out, during the earthquake Chicago was detached from the main ground and is now a lone Chicago-island swimming in the ocean.

  • The game revolves around finding your ex-girlfriend Alice, who may, or may not, be alive. Because you still love her.

  • Your second main goal would be to get off the island. The rescue operation failed (or didn't come at all(To be confirmed)), so you're on your own.

  • There are enough other survivors to make your life easier...or harder...
You will also have to gather together enough survivors to gain the attention of the government rescue teams.

  • The game will leave you several choices: rescue or not, steal or take by force, protect or attack, heal someone or heal yourself (due to the medicine and water being rare). All the choices you make in the game will affect what will happen to Adam and Alice.

  • There will be several factions, some of which you can align with, that were formed in the city. You can also befriend other stragglers.

  • There will be some kind of a camp, where survivors will gather to share food and sleep safely. The objectives will revolve around the camp at least from time-to-time (bring someone a bottle of water, so the person would not dry up etc).

  • At the current moment 3 more characters are known:
*Riley - a young female doctor, she will do her best to help you and other survivors at the camp.
*Virgil - an African-American former solider, he will try to protect the survivors.
*Peter - a disabled ex-firefighter. It was his idea to build a camp.
They will give you information and goals to achieve (Additional quests).

  • One of the ways of telling the story of Adam and Alice is through flashbacks. Whether they will be playable or not is unknown.

  • The game takes place over 9 days. That means no free-roam after the ending credits. Also the game will open and lock certain areas during your progress through the game.

  • There are weapons (Firearms, throwing weapons and everyday things can be used as a weapon too) and you can pick them up and shoot/hurt people. There won't be loads of ammo and health packs though, and the guns themselves are rare.

  • You can scare off people with an empty gun, if they don't realize there are no bullets inside.

  • You can only aim at one person at a time.

  • Water can either replenish health or be thrown away for distraction.

  • The cause of the disaster will be revealed throughout the game

neat. could you add the trailers too, perchance?

from what I read, I can only hope that this game will not experience future delays.
other than that, I hope it'll be a great game, since it feels like my type of game.

Looks like a really great game, but the lack of freeroam does suck.
The cuase of the disaster should probably be something interesting to find out.
Glad its coming out on the PC, I might give this a try when it does.
"You can only aim at one person at a time"
I don't like the sound of this at all. It sounds like the game will have a GTA targeting system, and if it stays like that without any free-aim option I will be thoroughly put off.
But the rest of the game sounds awesome, might get it.

You do know that there is free aim in GTA. You lightly click the trigger, and I'm pretty sure since this game is coming out after GTA and such that it will have better everything.(I'm guessing on this)
I like how you can use an empty gun to extort whatever you need from someone. Brain>brawn.
<&Fish>: did you just infract the toribot?
<&Fish>: you're fired
<JSnuffMARS> sounds like a drug-addiction or mastu(I'll censor that word)
<bishopONE>: also yeah fisting
<mwah> Gynx is it true you got admin over hero because hes from pakistan
When I first skimmed this I thought 'this is exactly the kind of game Montreal excels at', now I see its Darkworks, and they are also good at this kind of thing.

It looks to be quite interesting.
I love that it has a set time frame in which you can do all you can. They have made a lot of interesting choices, the end product will surely be quite cool.
When I see you, my heart goes DOKI⑨DOKI
Fish: "Gorman has been chosen for admin. After a lengthy discussion we've all decided that Gorman is the best choice for the next admin."
I too like the idea of scaring people with an unloaded gun.
Although, while this is all well and good what if I were to fire in the air?
Would that scare them off or make them pull out their weapons and try beat/shoot the shit out of me?
What if I were to beat down some would-be thief and then train my gun on them? Would they still try to fight back? Or would they run for it?

If the creators made the game have realistic responses to such situations, I would be most pleased
Even though I'd probably get the game anyway.
