Protests in Egypt
The US has long sponsored Mubarak's authoritarian regime, but it looks like it's on a very shaky ground now.

What are your predictions for Egypt's future? An upcoming democracy, or another oppressive Islamic republic like Iran? Or perhaps the revolts will be suppressed?

PS: I ask this here because everyone knows toribashians are brilliant political analysts.

Stuff like this is currently going on all over the world, and the common factor is the US helping whoever is in office keep their office.

Albania, my home country, being one of these that has been affected.

I know little about egypt's government, but quoting from V for vendetta, "The government should be afraid of it's citizens", and if there are 1 million chasing you with rocks, then you have fallen downhill and deserve to be expelled from office.

I hope they become a democracy, but alas, with the political hounds that scrounge the world preying on changing countries, with inexperienced governments and using them to their own advantage and profiting, it will not be a true democracy. If the revolts are suppressed, then there is something seriously wrong and someone needs to intervene.

Hyde: The quote is "People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people." I posted it yesturday and you forget half of it already?

Watched a livesteam for a few hours, shit is real over there, tanks in the street and fires burning brightly.

Upon looking at a few statistics, my prediction is that it will become another intolerant shithole theocracy.
I really want to be wrong. I wish these statistics didn't reflect reality.

Well from what i've seen on the news on tv, the army is taking an "on the fence" approach and aren't taking any action against the protesters. There was even a video of some protesters exchanging kisses on the cheek with a soldier in a tank, and a tank carrying a load of happy protesters somewhere.
The army are doing what they should be doing. Making sure no one gets hurt or does anything stupid. I'm quite happy with their actions.

The only thing that it seems can happen with everyone watching, is the downfall of the president, and the uprise of a real democracy. The citizens probably won't stop otherwise, and what's he going to do? Holocaust? I don't think so.

I mean, I might be missing something, but what else can happen?

Deceased count past 150 and no one got hurt? What? http://m.ctv.ca/topstories/20110129/...ts-110129.html
Hoss.
At least 74 people have been killed and 2,000 injured over five days of protests in Egypt, the country's security officials said Saturday, as violent clashes between demonstrators and police continued in the capital.

Your link says 74 not 150.

And it is the police that caused those kills. Not the army.

Their job is to keep the peace as best they can. I can't expect them to do any more than that.
