Porn Spam/Shameless Plugs
I know this isn't a problem that can be dealt with very easily, but recently there's been a hell of a lot of random threads saying 'Free Britney Spears porn!' and the like.

I enjoy coming on the forums to speak with fellow toribashians, and I'm glad that most of us are law abiding citizens of... Toribashia. Or whatever.

But it just bugs me to hell that these guys are so easy to set up and account and fill the place with jargon (but thankfully, it gets deleted quickly enough). Its just that couldn't there be anything else done? Like set up a new thread filter? I'm just getting tired of 'Free Porn!' threads, and I'm sure more people are annoyed by the viruses that lurk behind the links (Thanks Kitty).

Re: Porn Spam/Shameless Plugs
I'm tired of it too. I've seen 3 posts on "free porn" already, and one on penis-growth pills and other gross stuff. There has to be an way to stop it.
Re: Porn Spam/Shameless Plugs
Please, keep in mibd us moderators are doing our best to delete these topics everytime we see them.

I think the best approach would be to set up those randomly generated number and letter combination when setting up an account.

Also: If you are on IRC and see on of these topics tell us immiediately. Most of the time I'll be online.

Re: Porn Spam/Shameless Plugs
perhaps it would be best to leave them somewhere the admin's can see them?
If they are coming from a Unique IP it shouldn't be hard to stop...

to do that, the forums need updating to the next version, and you remember when the forums died for about 3 days when we tried something last time...

I think the IPs are all dynamic (so different ones each time).

The only reason they would annoy you is if you actually click the links to see "Britney nude" or "Paris Hilton gang-banged" or something.

We have set up the forums so you now have to respond to an email to get registered, but it could be that someone is posting these by hand, meaning that there is no way to stop it - not without filtering anyway (which may not even be supported)
I has a flavour

he just meant them being there is annoying, hell they annoy me... and all I do is scan 'em for viruses...
(the non-obvious ones :o)
Re: Porn Spam/Shameless Plugs
they are spambots, not people, you can easily see it because spambots always spam in the first forum in the forums and some put i this is in the wrong forum, please put it in the right one in the end. I doubt most of them have viruses, they are just spam commercials but some might have viruses

I would have placed it in the support forum, but there's no technical issues here, and Toribash itself is not involved. Its simply a matter of principle.

And I sure hope you're right about them being spambots (and Kitty has checked - most are viruses).

Re: Porn Spam/Shameless Plugs
Well Deleteing this spam porn shit or what ever is as easy as a Click of a Butten for an Admin or moderator so it isn't realy a big problem. just don't click it and your fine. Unless your in to that ;). but these forums are for toribash and things Related to toribash.

Not true, I am annoyed by them, because it's happened that I'm surfing the forums, and my mom is watching over my shoulder, and I hate trying to explain what a spam-bot is, and the fact that "No, I'm not watching porn!"...

Believe me, it's annoying. And yes, they can be actual people that act like spam-bots. I think the best idea is for the forums to be set up so that the first post of any member has to be moderated, and make a thread specifically for introductions, and unless you post in there, you aren't approved. And put it in the rules, because that also proves that people read the rules.
