AFAIK: the first digit of Nvidia cards is series number (higher is better for power consumption, heat and quality etc), the next one is the cards 'power' (7 > 5, etc). The last one indicates if the card is one of the same but a smaller model due to shrunk dye (eg the 295 is the 290 with smaller dye width, so less power less heat, etc).
