Secret Santa 2024
Original Post
My computer freezes.
It was shutting off randomly a few days ago, so I turned the clock speed back down from 215 to 200. (The opposite of overclocking) Now, it doesn't shut off, but freezes at random times. Could it be a problem with my BIOS? Everything freezes, including sound.

The person who solves this gets 890 tc.

Anthlon X2 @ 3000 MHz
2 Gigs of ram

Free TC!

Turn it back up and when it bluescreens... does it bluescreen?

Anyways, if it says NVLDDMKM.sys then it's your graphics card overheating.
I had this problem a lot with my graphics card. A box fan next to the computer is a good fix.
No, it doesn't bluescreen. and i already checked. it isn't that.

Over-clocking and under-clocking are messy processes, I'd set the graphics card back to factory defaults and consider reinstalling whatever operating system you use after a reformat of your HDD (obviously back everything up before this).

Typically hardware failures from the GPU or CPU you'll get a BSOD, so it seems more likely that it's not a hardware fault, or at least not a typical hardware fault.

Oh also update all your drivers, doesn't hurt.

Unfortunately I don't know any good diagnostic tools or such, but if you could get any more information on the problem that would certainly help.
for one, try and reset defaults in your bios accessable when you reboot, then clean the dust (if there is any) out of your case. If none of those work, do a system restore to let's say the first of may. If the problem still occurs, buy a new gfx card.
