Its cool i guess.
its just a gradient.
I take it that you are new to the Photoshop world.
if that is the case,then i give it a 8/10 for a first try.

I used gimp :]
And i'm new to stuff like this

To be honest it's a simple background with text from a tutorial, I know you're probably new so I'll say it's not a bad start. Now instead of folliwing tutorials exactly, try to add hints of your own thoughts into it and try to make it flow more with the background. Oh and a 1px border would look nice.
