Technological advancement in the next 50 years...
People say technology will always improve, it will yes. My grand parents occasionally tell me, life has changed so much since they were younger, that being the after affects of World War II with rationings to things like, how houses are heated, the internet, cars, and so on.

However, do you reckon say when we're 50 years older, this same change will be felt upon us? Do you reckon there will be much better methods to change how we live, how we work, how we socialise, pretty much everything you can imagine?

Will new methods begin to die out, and technological advancement slow down?

Do you reckon fuel methods would change, that being moving on from oil, and more on to solar panels, turbines, and it be much more cheaper to the general citizen?

Discuss guys, I find it quite interesting to think about.

Yes, but at a much larger scale then our grandparents. The first steam engine was in 1712. So anything before that, was horses. Since the begging of time.
In the early 1900's the first "car" was introduced. And already, there's prototypes for flying cars. So you give another 50 years, and the changes will be drastic.
Also, the first computer was built in 1944,(Arguably, but around then) was the first "electronic computer. Ofcourse it did very simple tasks and couldn't do much at that, but it was a start. So 55 years later, there were cell phones, and personal computers, and MUCH MUCH smaller. Give 50 years after that... who knows WHAT could be?

the petrol and gas will run out sooo it is obvious the world will be diferent.

Althought i believe the problemme is that the under developed countries may not be able to handle the new world.

And the technogical advancement will not slow down, it will even be faster since every technology we have, has to be adapted to a world without petrol or gas.

It's Mr.AkumaBeast for you! oh and...
Check my inventory if you wish to buy flames.
We will feel it even more so.

Last year 3d tvs came out, the year before was ipads, before that was smartphones, before that was media players, cds, 3d graphics, etc.

I remember being a kid and playing 2D games in Windows 3.0, now I play multimillion dollar games with AO, AA, RTRT, 5 maps/gon, etc.

20 years ago no one would ever think a game could make a billion dollars, but many game have made that within a year of release. No one thought a game like WoW could exist. Etc...
Well, I really hope so, that future will be filled with some marvelous things. As long we are progressing in some new ways, I mean, we need some breakthrough on the larger scale not just riding the same horse over and over again.

To explain, we did advanced in computer technology, in one big leap, almost unbelievable, and that propelled other branches of science and expanded them. But we are now completely dependent on that technology and our culture have changed with it, I may say, state of our mind is now different. Sometimes, I feel like a hamster (not the guy from this forum :P) that is running in his wheel, which is getting bigger, shiny and is gaining speed with every year, but its still a wheel. If you know what I mean.

There is not much of originality left in our advancement. And I think that is reflecting on our life. Just look at music that is produced these days, over-chewed and over-done, movies: remakes, games: franchise that goes to 2 digit sequels (even indie scene is coping each other), new things are quick thrills, satisfaction with little content, in one word: junk.

We are producing large amounts of junk and little percent of true innovations that can change our life drastically.
So, in 50 years there will be some news stuff, no doubt, but nothing to write home about it.
Who cares that I'll be able to play COD in virtual chamber and actually feel the bulet when it hits me, when the baldness and cancer will still be incurable.

During my childhood I expected that in the 2010-11 flying cars would be zooming around. But, instead I got: failing ASIMO and other 'robots', 3D movies and games that sucks (some little percent is ok I guess -.-), more devastating weapons for more reasonable prices, handheld computers to talk with my friend without actually having to go to another room to talk with him (laziness advanced that's for sure :]), some new ways to cure some disease (but also some new diseases), lots of radiation, more cars on streets (yeah, they better make them fly or I won't be able to walk around them anymore!), some new scientific theories but still just theories, not real answers (I can make few of them too), new candy and junk food (those, I love), more ppl on earth....

All in all, so much content to swallow and so little to remember.
Yeah, things will get better, but you reckon there will be a limit on how advanced we can make stuff? Could this even slow down in our life times? Like, I can't really imagine Earth being like Coruscant from Star Wars with flying cars and all that lol. If it did, amazing, we can build cities from deserts in no time, look at Dubai for starters, it's just money though.

The only thing I can imagine changing (Which will affect our lives mostly) is Science genetically modifying crops to perfection to work in semi harsh environments kinda like deserts, or make crops to be more durable in cold seasons. With this, starvation in LED (Less economically developed) countries can be stopped and yes, I can imagine Science changing our fuel demand. I can easily imagine us moving away from oil, and being able to split H2O and using water as a fuel.

I've heard it has been done before, but the oil companies intruded, because, they would end up bankrupt of course.

I have felt changes like, graphics getting better, my god them box televisions are almost gone replaced with flat screens everywhere, and internets becoming more faster, transfer speeds are getting quicker and quicker. Look at USB 3.0 and all these new gadgets for computers.

EDIT: 8OJ4N thanks for input, that does make me think about it a bit, you're right, yes. Things do get replicated, that's because, when we find something new, and it's successful other people jump on it to make money, or other people jump on it to expand on that idea to come up with more ways to make that idea better.

We have too much junk in this world now, and there will be a point, where there will be too much people. How will we cope with overpopulation? Will we have to control our population by legislation so we can keep up to food demand so we're not stressing the planets sustainability to produce food?

I've seen many types of technologies that are a work in progress as of today. Like how I saw a new gaming method developed by making us run in a sphere, like a hamster, which the rotation will be detected and transferred into the game as if we're walking or running. Then wireless 'goggles' to our head which is the 'screen' of the computer. Also given a toy gun, which I'm not sure how it works, but controls where we aim in the game. And that's only one work in progress.

Think of how many people are trying to develop the new ways to do this and that, I'm sure there will be cars that doesn't use oil. I've seen an air pumped car. Battery cars. I think many things can be advanced in the next 50 years. Astronomers might even get to do much more stuff to learn more about the universe. We might find new discoveries to help us build new things.
I hope gaming will be MUCH MUCH more epic!

There's enough oil in Alaska/Russia to last us at least another 3 centuries. The only reason we buy from the middle east is so in case of war, we have our own.

Vox Moderated Message:
You make the claim that we have enough oil for 300 years, could you please provide a citation?

My sources are my history teacher who has a Ph. D, but then again, no one knows for sure how much oil we have. My history teacher could just be falsifying information, which seems unrealistic since half of the class was actually about debating and winning them, one of the keys he taught us is to provide real information, and he never struck me as the hypocritical type, but 300 years could be wrong. Maybe it was more like 100-200 he said, but a long time nonetheless, and nothing we have to worry about.

But this is assuming the governments are releasing accurate data, Governments can and probably are lying about their reserves for political reasons.

But remember we have huge, untapped oil wells in Alaska, some other part in the US, and in Russia. There are more I can't remember, but enough to last us for a very long time.

I'm pretty sure technology will advance greatly in the next 50 years. But I just don't see how. I don't see anything else that we need in this world that hasn't been already invented.
