Do we play to play???
Hey guys.I just want to find out why most people play games.See I was a gamer(addicted even) but ive found new hope in music. The reason I allways played was because i couldn't take reality.Games was my "escape" from all the shit I did not want to sort out.

Do you agree that people abuse tis "virtual world" or do you think you can just keep playing instead of taking on life.Or you can play beause you are bored I guess. You tell me.

NOTE:I don't want to fight with anyone I just want your opinion.
It is great fun to experience something that you would not normally, such as in a game like Bastion or Diablo or Call of Duty. Or to explore a thought experiment such as Achron or Gears of War. But the main reason I play is just to play with friends, it is fun to work together to achieve a goal.

That is why at the top of the list of games that I play is always multiplayer games like Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo (co-incidently the MP games I play most are Blizzard. Though I do adore Blizzard's abilities when it comes to making games, I do play far more indie than AAA, but perhaps that shows that Blizzard is justified?).

I think I escaped addiction because I am a social player, I practically only play for long periods when I play with friends. When it comes to single player games I will maybe only play for an hour at time, and probably only 1 play through.

I wouldn't say for me it is about escaping reality, but it certainly is interesting to peer in to the realities that other people have constructed.
When I see you, my heart goes DOKI⑨DOKI

Lol, you basically answers your own question, of course we play to have fun/play, because then what's the point doing something if your not going to enjoy it. And you see, I'm 13, i play fps games and stuff like that because I can't play it irl, so I make the most out of it on a game

Totally. Zeno Clash in particular stands out for this exact reason; the universe is so odd and almost alien that you can't help but be intrigued. We all get a good look at Earth and its inhabitants every day, so it can be interesting to see something different without having to go to Farawayland. (that isn't to say travelling is bad, we just can't travel all the time without being nomads)

That, and it's fun. I wouldn't say i play to escape reality as much as... Play because it's often more fun than reality. You're probably not going to become a space marine fighting the demons of hell in reality, but you can in a game. If your life is awesome as well, then double the bonus for you. I'll even go out on a limb and say that gaming can contribute to your happiness, since you're having fun doing it, and as long as it doesn't conflict with the rest of your life, then i don't see how it differs from any other form of recreation. Obviously you don't move a lot, but you also sit rather still while fishing or reading.

I do play to kill some time, and to have fun, and because of the lameness I live in real world.
I could stop playing games if i we're on an island.
Nobody plays for just one reason.
I probably play for quite a few.
I'd say one of the major reasons, which has already been said, is "I wouldn't say for me it is about escaping reality, but it certainly is interesting to peer in to the realities that other people have constructed". It's always great imagining what it would be like in a different type of reality. It'd be quite a different world inside of a videogame. One game that I was practically addicted to was the Fear 2 campaign. I would wait till midnight or so, grab my nice headphones and then play with the volume up pretty high. After like half an hour or so, I basically thought I was in the game. I almost pissed myself when I heard some weird noise, let alone when something jumped out at you.
That's just the best example of how I play to escape reality.

Other then that, I play to waste time, or when I'm asked by my friends to play.
Social gaming is great because I can keep connected with my friends and family even though we're all across the east coast. I'd say that's one of my major reasons to play too. I'd much rather be playing Gears 3 with my friends then be on the phone, or facebook talking to them. Because, lets face it, you can do anything you want through games nowadays, the same can't be said about or lives.

I play to win always. But if I am with friends I love to just hang around and have some fun (:

I play games personnally to have fun with friends. Basically, I can't play more than 15 minutes without getting bored if I don't play with a friend of a brother.

Now, escaping reality. Sometimes, you just feel like evading life, being a floating cloud, not having any worries. I find this "peace" when I do sports. I let go of all my anger in a slap-shot, or I run and get rid of my sadness, etc. Everyone wants to escape life at a certain point, and everybody has their own way. But, I know that playing sports won't fix the problems I face in life, but make me forget them momentarily.

Do we abuse this virtual world? No, I don't think so, as anybody that is sane knows that it won't change anything.

I play games because it is fun. It is as simple as that.

This isn't a useful post, add some content next time or you may be punished, maybe try including something like what makes the game fun, or why you use this game for fun over other games.
