Russian LGBT equality activists gathered in St. Petersburg on Sunday to protest an anti-gay propaganda measure that calls for a fine of up to $1,600 for “public actions aimed at propaganda of pederasty, lesbianism, bisexuality, and transgenderism among minors.” The measure, which has passed the first of three readings, is intended to limit any public discussion or display about the LGBT community. Lawmakers are considering similar legislation in Moscow and have even suggested that the St. Petersburg rules could be extended to other regions or into federal legislation.
Political leaders in St. Petersburg are about to vote on law that will make it illegal for any person to write a book, publish an article or speak in public about being gay, lesbian or transgender. The ruling party led by President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin could make millions of people invisible with the stroke of a pen.
Human rights defenders around the country are doing everything they can to stop it. They are risking their freedom to organize flashmobs and protests, but they are afraid that it won't be enough.

So, let me get this straight... Political leaders in Russia are voting on a petition that's against gays, lesbians, transgenders, etc... Can this world get any more stupid? Why can't people just respect each other's sexual interest? I'm straight but I have to give a damn if other people can't do what they feel's right.
i actually cant do more than post the sites i got this info from i am not russian though...
actually it did not pass yet.
which could be a reason why hardly ppl know about it.
also those guys arenīt "reporters".
these sites are run by LGBTQ orgs from russia/all over the world.

I see nothing wrong with this. Propaganda targeted at minors for any cause should not be allowed.

The bill is not 'against gays, lesbians, transgenders, etc...', it is against public actions aimed at propaganda of gays, lesbians, transgenders, etc among minors.
I believe now that I have cleared up your confusion, I can reuse your argument (with a small modification); why can't people just respect other people?
If 'gays, lesbians, transgenders, etc' would stop pushing propaganda on to minors, then it wouldn't be a problem. Do you really think it is a good idea to do that? It has been well proven that children are impressionable, and I don't think this kind of thing is the sort of issue a child should have to deal with.
