Let's play Well of Souls!
"This is an odd game to give a traditional video game breakdown for, as it's more of a VERY fun way to kill time and whatnot than an epic adventure that awaits you with realistic graphics and a classic original soundtrack. True, it's not the next Zelda or Final Fantasy, but it actually COULD measure up in some ways to actual PC masterpieces such as the Diablo series. Nowhere near as good graphics or sound or anything like that, but it's very fun and addictive, and of course, free! Anyway, I'll go about my explanation ''breaking it down'' as best I can.
Basically, in the most plain and outright sense, this is a simple RPG game that you can play either offline or online. The main World, EverGreen, sets you out on a quest to rid the realm of an evil being known as the Black Wrath. Single play is quite simple; run around the map hacking monsters and gaining levels, going back to towns to heal and buy equipment, and so on. Almost all equipment and even some items are restricted for use only once you've achieved a certain level, but unlike Diablo and such you never need stat requirements...and while I'm on that subject, the level up system is nice yet basic in which you begin with 20 points to apply to one of five stats, and you gain 10 more points with each level. Each time you perform an action in battle you gain sort of ''ability'' points called PP which you can spend on things such as new spells or increasing your proficiency in a certain element or weapon type. Along with the fact that you get to choose from a variety of character classes which all have simple strengths and weaknesses as well as a simple pet system, that's just about how deep the gameplay in general goes..but don't believe for a moment that the game stops there!
One of the biggest cool features of this game is the online play. There are always some servers up and usually at least a few dozen people playing around, and with the huge worldwide chat interface and the ability to share items, skins, and hearty conversation with hoardes of other players 'round the clock, this feature alone adds hours upon hours of addictiveness and depth to the game. Wait--you don't know what a ''skin'' is? Quite simply it's what your character looks like--the graphic file that your character uses. Another awesome feature of WoS is the fact that you can choose from dozens of pre-made skins, download more from the Internet, grab even more from players in online games as they use them, and even use the skin editor to create your own! By the time you've been playing for a couple months, you can pretty much expect your skin options to range from X-Men to Street Fighter to DBZ to Megaman to the original skins and many, many others!
Along with skins, there are a couple other ways to modify WoS to your liking, the most prominent probably being the Worlds feature..you start WoS with EverGreen alone, but at any point you can check online for new worlds--and man, there are TONS of them! I haven't downloaded HALF of them and I think I have around 10 or so at my disposal right now. These ''Worlds'' are, simply put, new ''games'' within Well of Souls itself, complete with their own characters, monsters, classes, gameplay, etc...a lot of the graphics and interface are similar to EverGreen as it is the foundation of all WoS Worlds, but still, once you have a good 10 different time-consuming games to play at any time online or offline, it gets pretty dang cool. Of course, not all games are online all the time and actually only a few besides EverGreen have regular servers of their own, but you can always put up your own server under one of the Worlds and tell other people to join in the fun!
Now that I've basically covered all major aspects of the game's playability, I'll give a quick synopsis of everything else:
The graphics are rather poor compared to ...almost every game made since about 1995, but some of the backgrounds and skin are are quite pretty. The maps can range from simple art to what looks like scanned pictures enlarged and coded into the game...and probably are. Lots of the skins for NPCs look colorful and good, and of course when you get people bringing in skins from actual high-graphic 2d games some PCs look pretty snazzy themselves.
The sound is really good in EverGreen (what I believe is fully original unless I'm wrong). Everything's in MIDI, and you can actually go into the folder for each world and swap MIDIs for certain event with your OWN by simply renaming one of yours to the name of the song you wish to replace and pasting it to the folder! Besides EverGreen, though, most worlds use copyrighted MIDIs from random video games and whatnot..but still it adds a lot to the effect to well-made worlds.
The replayability and game life is amazing--the strongest point of this game by far. Once you get into the Well of Souls, it's very, very hard to pull yourself out! Added to the fact that it's absolutely FREE unless you want to give them a donation (which I say is worth it), this is something that just about anyone would want on their PC!"

This game is amazing, a truly great RPG. This game goes to show that you don't need great graphics to give you a good 40 sum hours of playing time or MORE. I have a level 100 (max) Druid on Arienell world.
