Reversing Homosexuality
"If homosexuality could be medically reversed would it be morally required, permissible, or wrong to reverse it? Most people in the scientific and medical communities now think that homosexuality is biologically determined, probably prior to birth. If that is the case then presumably we will, maybe sometime soon, figure out exactly how it is caused. Once that happens it is quite likely that someone will figure out a way to reverse it.

Suppose, for example, we have a test that can detect a propensity to become homosexual prior to birth, and a simple drug treatment that can be administered during pregnancy to reverse that propensity. Should parents be allowed to use the test and the treatment? Would it be OK if the state required parents to use them? Would you use them if the option were available?

My libertarian inclinations lead me to think that the test and the treatment should be legal, but not required. But when it comes to the questions of whether it would be morally acceptable to use it, and whether I would use it, I’m not so sure. I don’t think there is anything wrong with homosexuality, so the idea of intervening to fix it strikes me as morally dubious, but on the other hand I would like my children to have their own children, and even today life as a homosexual can be difficult, so I think I would find the option tempting.

ALL HAIL THE METAPHOR!!
This thread is going to turn out the same as the gay marriage thread... Apathy on one side, religious extremism on the other.
I don't think this would really go into wide use. And this wouldn't make homosexuality any more or less morally reprehensible. Its just another side that shows how you can't blame a person for bring homosexual (at least in that you can't blame a person for being heeterosexual). Also, I do think that homosexuality is a result of partly genetics, and partly environmental factors.

It is quite fundamental that homosexuals do not have offspring. They can have the equivalent of offspring, but such things are sooner dealt with by natural selection with significantly reduced chances of inheriting anything from their legal guardians.

Discussion has seen enough about homos recently. Find something new.
