sort of
he makes valid points with the mapping and difference between the details of the helmet and the face
but the Japanese geisha girls influence is pretty obvious, so the simplicity of the face is fine.
but scales at the back take away from the simplicity of the face, the detail and bevel type effect on the scales conflict with the face.
the purple of the scales is too much, detracts from the geisha-ness of the face.
i would remove them and do some more smaller areas of that light blue design
design of the helmet is exquisite, with the mentioned changes it could look great
the giant helmet looks great on the reference, but the sphere/head limits the design and needs to be lessened
i would shorten the spikes of the helmet at the top. youre still allowed a certain level of creative license with the design.
some mapping issues obviously, face is fat, could squash the face, bring the helmet in and lessen the curve on the inside of the helmet, to give it a more narrow and slender effect.
if the space above and below the helmet where darker, it would give it alot more depth and put more focus onto the face, perhaps the sleek black hair that goes with the geisha girls and a light gradient on the shadow around the face from the helmet. keep the hair simple black with very little in the way of detailing and leaving a few of the strands of hair down from under the helmet into the face area to show that its hair.
i dunno, just an idea, the black white and red contrast is the core of the geisha look and i dont think it looks right without the start contrast of the black
some basic mistakes with the mapping, but otherwise good design and execution
good to see you back in the art board
