So basically i bought both hand texture trails and uploaded identical textures onto each.. for some strange reason the right hand trail always has a weird black background but the left hand just shows the image .. any one know why this is happening?

Did you save the right had as a png?

It's because the alpha is wrong on one of them.

Open the one that works in GIMP & flip the image. Then save as .png

Yesh, some stuff doesn't like being in sets when activated.
