The Bible | What is Your Opinion.
I know everyone has their own opinion on the Bible, some people dont belive, i dont believe much but it helped me out of a hard time in my life.

Like this Bible verse was one one the major ones that helped me.

Matthew 5:43-48 ESV
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? ...

Also, if any of you have a favourite Bible verse list it below.

Personally, a portion of my family tried cramming the book down my throat 24/7 when I was a child, so I did have a feeling of disdain towards it for quite a while. All the negative thinking made me assume that it was just a falsehood that said "be good and fear, or die."

To some extent, I still think that, and I'd definitely be lying if I said otherwise. But sooner or later I learned to respect it, and those who believe in it.
Although I won't spend any effort losing that respect to their boundaries if they cannot comply to mine, in a sense.

As for moral lessons; I think it has it's fair share of teachings, however I'd still prefer writings by Machiavelli any day.
Bible is wrote by men, not God himself, so following a logic that men make mistakes (while God doesn't) Bible can be full of mistakes too, which then means it's a flawed representation of actual things you have to follow to enter the Heaven.

Fact that is written so many years after the actual event is just another nail in the coffin for Bible's validity.

On the other side, it IS a great book. Its 'philosophy' (although naive) is beyond any postulates. Who ever wrote it (and it seams it has many authors) maybe was under the 'influence' of God, and in the book you even have that description where it tries to validate itself by that cause. Off course that doesn't make it more believable, but it is a sound BOOK with many good advice and if you live by it you do feel much better as a person.

We can say that Bible is mother of all inspirational speeches, and its there to guide us through life, but it doesn't mean people were flying around, parted seas and acted as X-men. I think all of that is added to it so it would stuck some fear so you have to stay on the course that Bible is showing you.
For those times it worked great. It still works great, but people today are much more 'sturdier' and less naive.

Everyone should read it though, and adopt some of its wisdom.

Will be shining...''
My opinion:
It is alot softer and cheaper than toilet paper

Although I do have a quote I like to shout before I shoot people:

Psalm 23
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

GUNSHOT

(as it gets bigger I shout louder)
"Slaughter is the b3st medicine"
The bible is simply a tool that the rich, powerful, and intelligent, use to control the masses of poor, feeble, mongoloids. It's gone down this way since the beginning.

Example: Greedy rulers used "the bible" as a "holy" excuse to get their stupid footsoldiers to ransack various middle-eastern locations during the crusades.

Also yeah, as much as I despise christians, and hate the bible, and people who think they matter in the eyes of something omnipotent, I will say this:

Thank fuck we have the bible, people are so stupid, if it wasn't for the bible, we would be a bunch of heathen barbarians raping and killing in the streets, since no on told us that doing that makes "god" angry. (speaking as if we'd even last this long without the bible).

Think of the bible like a metaphorical handbook for the stupid and lost, it helps them get on track, and helps set a good structure with good guidelines, and it is NOT meant to be taken word for word.

And yeah, so the gays are bashed a lot because of it, as upsetting as that is, the rest of the "good christian values", and the fact that it taught us morals, more than enough makes up for the homophobia.

My rating: 5/10
I have a feeling this thread is going to get real shit real fast.

Firstly, it's too vague. An overall opinion on the Bible is going to get nowhere but in circles.

What about the Bible?

Would you like to compare the views in the Bible to the views we hold true today?

Etc, etc.

We generally want to stay away from topics like these because it's simply opening up a can of worms without a place to put the worms. Again, these discussions need a direction to go in rather than just an over-encompassing topic. I'm going to close this thread. If the OP feels adamant about wanting to talk about the Bible he can go ahead and open up another one that actually pinpoints what exactly he wants to discuss. An example of this would be making this thread into something like: "The Bible as Inpiration" or some such more accurate title.

EDIT: Any objections to my decision can be taken up with me via PM. Don't worry, I don't bite hard.
