I would like to discuss IP-bans, alternative ways of banning users, alternative punishments in general, etc. and the pros/cons of each.

I wouldn't know how the staff goes about discussing IP-bans, but from what I can see from my point of view, they're just a bit too easygoing when dishing them out. I also don't know who is IP-banned and who isn't, but based on the number of alts that fill up the ban list, it seems to me that IP-bans aren't common enough.

I could be wrong on this, but from what I understand, IP-bans are always permanent while username-bans are not? If I'm right on that, then I think that should change. We should be deterring people from making a million alts so that they can get around their ban. Some of these people are just a thorn in the side of the Toribash community. Consistent scammers would be my biggest pet-peeve. I really don't think the staff is hard enough on scammers who get banned, make alts, and scam some more. Instead of waiting for reports to come in and catch them, we should be preventing the scams with temporary IP-bans. Prevention is always the best solution.

Well IP ban is serious stuff to do and ppl need to do really bad violation of the term of service and rules. Like phish, fraud, etc

I think ip ban should given to paypal scammer . But oftenly , scammer don't scam anymore after the ban is void

For bug abuser , example: thiggist (no offense yo) usually they do it for fun / beneficial stuff

IP bans are useless because it is really easy to change it using proxies and whatnot.
We actually prefer to have bad users with one single IP so they are really easy to spot.
It is literally impossible to prevent people from creating alts, so why try?

The people we'd want to IP ban already know about proxies. It's quite an "open secret", so to speak. To successfully IP ban someone who is using proxies would involve banning all the proxies in the world. To successfully IP ban someone who isn't using proxies requires making the bans so broad that we'd be banning cities, states, small countries, or even large countries, instead of people. The amount of collateral required for a successful IP ban is too high to make it actually worth doing.

Spoofing a mac is possible. Nothing to be added by such a ban.

MAC addresses don't even work that way. MAC addresses are used to communicate at the extremely local level, and thus by the time the TB servers see a MAC address, it's the next machine out from it, not the original. If we banned the primary MAC address that does anything on the TB servers, I'm pretty sure something would break in a spectacularly abysmal fashion.

On top of that, MAC addresses are, just as IP addresses are, possible to obscure.

Would it really be so bad to disallow proxys, though? Everybody has the choice to use proxys or not, right?

Why do people use proxies? I mean, they make you slightly more anonymous but whats the point of that unless you are hiding from the government?
