Thoughts on Facebook buying Oculus?
Hey, it's recently been announced that Facebook has bought Oculus VR for $2 billion. How do you guys think this will go down? I honestly see Facebook doing some sort of fad with it to make money, heck, maybe even ads pop up during your use with it. The amount of silly shit that goes on Facebook and generates revenue will probably be ported to the Oculus and they'll glorify it and make it seem great, not to mention that King, "makers" of Candy Crush and other stolen concepts, will probably jump on this with microtransactions and all that awful stuff.

I'm just curious to hear what you guys think will happen.

I would link you to news sites, but they're all being broken and flooded by Oculus fans, so if you guys could search it up yourself, that'd be great.

Oculus rift?
Please be clear of what you're speaking about
I dont know if you're talking about oculus ( the horror movie)
Or the oculus VR :|
Facebook is buying Oculus for the same reason Google is buying robot companies. They see the potential in their technologies and want to have a monopoly on them in the future for longterm profit.
That's the kind of spirit that will get our technological knowledge advanced fast. Big companies have the big money, so if they don't invest into new technologies, who will?

Google is your friend, my friend. There is a company called Oculus. It specializes on 3D technology. Facebook bought them for money and facebook shares worth 2 bn USD total.
How are you?
Juicy, sorted in OP now.

I see your points Redundant, and I'm sure that Facebook will advance the technology faster than Oculus alone could do it, but are you not concerned that they will add anything that would be questionable? Such as advertisements, like I mentioned? I certainly am.

Why are you worried about ads? They are omnipresent already.
:v
Were you worried about ads when google announced google glasses?

If there will be ads, which I doubt 'cause who on earth puts ads on hardware and expects it to sell well, who will force you to buy it?
Additionally, once the technology becomes successful there will be a tight competition of people trying to profit from it as well. Facebook won't have a monopoly on it. You will be able to choose facebook's competition as well.
How are you?
>mfw this happens
>mfw no open source
>mfw no waifu simulators
>mfw I have no face

or that's how /v/ reacts.
I don't really care, I'm interested in 3D technology anyway.

My hope is that because of how rich facebook is they will be able to create a really great product in the end. Remember when Disney bought out starwars? the new starwars movie comes out 2015 and we have NO IDEA on how it will turn out.

Hope for the best
but expect the worse.
I don't expect fb to destroy it, they are just trying to make use of their excessive capital to actually turn a profit.

Hopefully fb is trying to build a second life styled virtual social network. I'd be down for that.

I don't really get it why Facebook bought Occulus.
They could buy Youtube, or anything.

Well, no they couldn't.

Facebook definitely does not have the capital to buy out google (since I doubt google will sell YT)...
