In-game tutorial
I think since Toribash has gone on steam we should update the in-game tutorial a bit. Make it more in depth, teach players how to move more and how the tori works rather than showing them how to do a body breaker giving them the notion that they can do it in every mod. There should be a section of tutorial on each of the basic mods: aikido, wushu, taekkyon, judo. This way, players get a better feel on how to play this game that is very hard to learn early on. It'll also make them more interested in actually playing these mods if they know the basics in each.
teeth marks on my goosebumps, the chains frostbit me.
brief tf2 style video tutorials on game modes may work.

move and joints tutorials will be terrible choice
tell me about aikido

Yeah, the current tutorials really suck, I once did the body breaker in MP tho.
I dont really know what kind of tutorials it should be then, since move tutorials suck and something like tactics tutorial will ruin a part of 'secrets'of the game (I mean shit like power of wrists in aikido)
Hi
Rapid Threads Lmod.

I'm saying an explanation on these mods and how to play them. For example wushu, you tell about the dq, the time frames, about moving toward your opponent, you teach them little stuff. Just like that brief aikido 'tutorial', except actually informative and helpful. This will also help them play the game better and understand how joints move.

For an absolute starter, mod tutorials might be a bit too advanced.
When people get here they're still at the point of "what happens if I click here?".
From the bad steam reviews I assume they can't figure out how the joints even work together in the most basic of ways, and quit before they get past that.

I think that something that in a very concise and objective manner explained to them how things like "chest+pecs+shoulders" or "hips+legs+knees" work, might ease up the initial overwhelming feeling a tad.

At least they would be able to flail an arm or a move a leg which are stuff used through all the gameplay.
We're still kids in buses longing to be free.
Or something even more simple as,how each joint works
When extend the wrist it moves like that, when i extend the glute it moves like that
Are you living the life you really want?

you have a ghost for that. click to see what it does.

explaining groups of joints may be usefull, but again, not like it's done in current tutorial where you can click only on highlighted things.

will be more interesting to have it like: to make basic punch you need to use this, and demonstration, and then let person to do something similar, but with restrictions ofc. like in basic punch tutorial you can damage uke only with hands. (add damn 'soft' flag for bodyparts already, to be able to make other bodyparts unable to cause damage)

i have couple of ideas how this whole tutorial thing can be done to be a very smooth transition from exciting trailer expectations to actual gameplay, but it will require lua scrips obviously including camera control. i'm positive that 12 y/o scrubs would not read text tutorials so voice over is a must.
the only real question is do we have devs? and if we do, are they willing to put an actual effort?
