Which Les Paul guitar?
My parents are giving me a guitar of my choice for christmas. I was thinking of Slash's Epiphone Les Paul guitar (£200 for guitar, bag and amp), but I'm not sure if it's going to last me for more than a year. Can anyone give me recommendations on guitars?

I already have an amp (a roland personal monitor). I can also buy the effect pedals myself. I particularly want a Les Paul guitar with a gig bag all under £300

Thanks guys!

Don't go with a Les Paul. Go with a Strat. This is coming from a guy from WI, where Les Paul's are from.

Hi, I think off-topic would be a more suitable place for your thread to be discussed. Rapid Threads board is a bit more related to toribash stuff, whereas off-topic can be related to general content outside the game, such as this thread (ps: As long as it isn't a dumb matter. See off topic rules&guidelinesfor a better understanding).
If you want a Les, go for the one you like the look of most. That being said Les Paul's have had a decline in quality so id choose pretty much anything else

I'm kinda interested why you'd say that. Mind justifying?

I always thought stratocasters looked generic though, especially the black ones. They're really generic and they look like the first ones that you think of when you hear "electric guitar". I don't know how to explain.

Also I don't like the headstock of the beginner startocasters.

The Epiphone Les Paul Special II looked pretty solid to me. What do you guys think? It's only £140 and I'm pretty sure I can get a case for that too.

I should've also stated what songs I will be playing. I'll mostly be playing a range of songs from punk to hard-rock to metal.

Depending on the sound you want, get a cheaper les paul, go for the one with the best wood, then you buy the pickups later.

This is what I am doing with my Bass, got one with the best wood for a smaller price, now aiming for Geezer Butler signature pickups. Or maybe an EMG MusicMan so I won't need to cut my bass off :P

Not sure about punk rock but for metal I'd surely get those Zakk Wylde Signature pickups (if I played guitar)

go to music shops and play a few guitars until you find one you like. each one is unique.

also Gibsons are overrated and overpriced.
