"Harry Brown" is one of those movies I've had in backlog since forever. Funnier enough, my attention to it was brought only thanks to end credits theme. See, I was once diehard Drum & Bass fan (I still appreciate some DnB now, but I mostly converted to metal cult), and there was this one particularly great track by Chase & Status. Six fucking years did it take me to finally watch Harry Brown. But at last, the deed is done and I am glad that I remembered it after all those years - it was a good watch. I am nowhere near as zealous as other movie maniacs who had seen zillions of movies, I am really lacking in that departament, but I guess the result of it is the fact: if I decide to pick up a movie afterall, it probably has to be a good one. Well, at least it has to be well-hyped one.

Note to self: do not watch depressing movies when sad.

I'm not into the movie review & critique bullshit, and I don't really intend to get into it, so I suppose I'll try to keep this post relatively short. "Harry Brown" is a movie about an elderly man, terrorized by the hooligans in his neighborhood. As the movie plays out, he decides to become a vigilante. I don't want to tell much more because I myself have not read any "summaries" of the movie and I believe it has greatly improved my reception.

The dreaded underpass. I could totally relate to the main character who was afraid of passing through the subway. There are some shady places in the place I live in, the fact you might end up meeting criminals in the underpass is unnerving.


Let's talk visuals first. There's a lot of graphic violence in "Harry Brown", like real lots. Seriously it is not a movie for children. There's a large bunch of really unnerving scenes all over the series (which also brings up acting - for me it was really good, and yeah, yeah, Michael Caine, of course). To be honest I found some special effects (read: blood) slightly half-assed. If you pick up gunwounds seeming out of place, that's bad. But it wasn't a real nuisance, honestly. Soundtrack is well done, noticeably improving the experience. The movie itself is kind of a wild mixture of a sad, depressive drama; an vigilante-action thriller and an almost misanthropic social commentary. It had me experiencing emotions such as despair, anger and wicked satisfaction of witnessing the vigilante at work. Welp, what can I say? It's been a good movie, it's moved me and I could totally relate to the fear of loiterers at night. Thank god it had DnB in end credits, or otherwise I might have missed it.
