Martial[Art] "Impossible shape"
A few of you Ukes showed interest in "the impossible shape" in martial arts and how it is a health practice in both Qi Gong and Taijiquan.
I wish to describe this to you and help you learn how to do it.
I tried to do this in game and explain it, but what a hassle! and one of y'all kept pinging out so....
The impossible shape is named so because the contortions of the human body that attempt to assume this particular shape is literally impossible and your physical structure resists this shape due to the tension caused by following 3 fairly simple rules.
Any one of these three rules can be performed very simply and effortlessly.
Doing any combination of two of these rules is with little difficulty.
But trying to do all three simultaneously is literally impossible. one of the three rules WILL BE BROKEN.
Feel free to post pictures of your efforts to prove me wrong though!
Ready?
Rule #1:
Both index fingers are to be pointing parallel to one another.
This is the most important part of rule 1.
For added difficulty (doing it correctly) make sure all 5 fingers are splayed apart and you are stretching them out while maintaining index parallel pointing.
Rule #2:
Both the shoulders are sunk and rolled forward and both elbows are to be dropped and slightly bent - never straight or more than 90 degree angle.
For added difficulty (doing it correctly) try to increase the space between the back of your hand and your chest without straightening your elbows!
Rule #3.
Both palms are rotated upward to face the sky.
For added difficulty (doing it correctly) try to torque your fingers in a rotation with the palms to increase tension.
You can do any one of these three rules easily.
You can add 1+2, or 2+3, or 1+3 and not encounter much difficulty.
But as soon as you do all one, two, AND three, the shape is impossible and you will be breaking one of the rules.
The impossible shape is easiest to explain from the top down, using your hands.
But for added difficulty (doing it correctly) you must learn to start from the toes and work your way up with that tension by doing the impossible shape in a deep squat and "searching" for the tension by torquing your hips and glutes.
That tension is the key; build it in the legs and work it up to the abdomen and out the hands...
