Backseat moderation?

It's where a non-admin tries to take control of a situation and saying stuff like 'this thread belongs in Art&Textures'.

An example is when someone says "Close this please". Or, "Do not triple post".

I find backseat moderating a pretty fuzzy rule, it should be clarified for both sides if its going to be persecuted. I dont see any bad thing in people reminding others of the "law"(not speaking of obvious things like what cindermomo said). Ordering a moderator to do something may be offensive (and takes up space, use IRC if its somehow more urgent than something through reports)

If you see someone doing something wrong and you have no power ignore it. For example when I see someone posting in the wrong section I don't say "wrong section"

If you want to report something IRC is your best rout.

Ah perfect example, the person above me just made a pretty useless post. I'm going to ignore it, but I'm just pointing this out as an example of backseat modding. If I said "Please do not make useless posts" That would be backseat modding.

It's frowned upon because instruments are already in place for you to use.
Instead of posting a backseat mod post, use the report button.
Besides, it's never nice to leave a sort of permanent statement pointing fingers at rule breakers.

As Zaarock said, it's not a completely cut-and-dry rule.
The basic premise is that instead of posting on the thread, yelling at people for breaking the rules, etc. etc., and expecting that a moderator will come along shortly to take care of it, we'd prefer that you use the handy "Report" button, which is right below the Player Statistics button.

This creates a notice for moderators that gives a link to the reported thread along with the reason that you're reporting it, making it a lot easier to find the problem in the first place.

Also posts pointing out a mistake are usually regarded as spam which will get you infracted. Basically use the handy dandy report button.
