UniBash #WHEREAREYOUNOWTHATINEEDYOU
I think that UniBash was a Great option and way to learn to master a certain craft. And at the time i was jsut worried about grinding via dueling. But now that I want to Explore Various ways and more stable routes of making TC. It's nonexistent, and i think it should be revived.

Post thoughts on UniBash, and Weather it should be brought back or not.

#UnibashRevival

If memory serves, the main reason it went away was because of a lack in volunteer man power to run it and contribute material and classes and stuff + the fact that there weren't really a whole lot of people engaging in it anyway.

Yea there were some good resources but most stuff can be found in the tutorial board or around the place anyway. The most valuable thing was probably just the lessons/mentoring so it's a bit of a shame that's gone.

#UnibashRevival? Probably not. But there are plenty of ways people can still contribute their knowledge around the place here - but most likely it won't happen because that's the way it is. The takers outweigh the givers and the givers get sick of giving.
if people worked hard it wouldn't die Am I right?
I mean ok there aren't many people to volunteer as teachers but maybe its a 'not working hard problem' ?
Yea but that's the thing. People get sick of just working hard for no reward. Even if helping others is their reward it's time taken out of their day and they get sick of it. People burn out, people get bored, it becomes a chore, people don't want to come home from work and do more work etc etc etc...
Same problem the staff here and every other volunteer group in the world experiences. If you think that the volunteers just need to work harder to make it all come together then I'm sorry to say but you're really naive about how all of this works. :s

If it's so simple then I invite you start up an org to run tutorials and workshops. Try it out. Work hard. See how far you get. In fact I extend that invitation to anyone out there. Set up something decent and get a good program up and running and prove me wrong. I don't want to come across as irritated here - genuinely trying to explain - but it just really annoys me when people are so ignorant to the human factor that holds the whole goddamn place afloat (and every other volunteer based thing in the world).

I was one of the teachers in unibash, currently one of the more active ex-teachers.

Unibash died for good reasons. The lack of activity & contribution from both sides (test takers/testers) was the main. Some teachers crucial to us (e.g. experienced players or foreign players that could translate) were also at a low.

Not many came into the tests anyway. One or two in a week at best. Not to mention that with the overall inactivity of the teachers a testee could potential wait for months before getting results.

Out of all the categories (Ingame, Clan, Modding, Video, Market, Art) only Ingame, Clan and Market were ever taken. Nobody bothered with the others

And lastly, achievements. They barely got sent out to the people who passed.

It was deemed unneeded for good reasons, and was closed down and deleted

Also, please, google before you post. This has been asked so many times and I tried to post an explanation on all those threads

Yeah, I was lucky enough to get the Clan Graduate achievement thing when I did. I think it would be tough to collect enough people from a variety of different languages to set it up again to be honest.
Oh, that was another good thing: multi language support. Thanks for reminding me.

Yea the more I think about it then more I remember how big of an operation it was. I wonder how it'd have gone in comparison if it wasn't trying to do so much and had just stuck to a core of activities.
Like, at one stage we had an irc bot by Fish which would automatically quiz people on the tests. We had test judgers, tutorial writers, class hosts, teachers. All sorts of stuff.
If it were ever to be done again by anyone I'd recommend just targeting newer users and teaching them various Toribash skill areas in classes hosted by users knowledgeable in those areas. Keep it simple, don't over reach. Lesson learned the hard way.

Yeah I remember it was the bot that tested me in the #unibash IRC channel. Perhaps we could revive that, and maybe revamp the questions?
[QUOTE=Solax;8509327]Yea but that's the thing. People get sick of just working hard for no reward.

Why don't we revive it and Make some kind of commision based reward for the people who get test takers and actual Polls on the information given out. I mean Toribash has changed, the more tools we have, the more we can use to make it work this time. Maybe Unibash wasn't a good thing at the time.

Also, instead of having a bunch of information that people don't want. We know now what they did and didn't want. So why don't we provide that information to those who want it. instead of Deleting a great learning tool because of the lack of people who wanted it. Not everyone wants to better their Toribash reputation or their skills for that matter.
The thing is, as solax said, the operation was a pretty big one. Getting it booted up again would be very hard, and for what?

There doesnt seem to be much of a continous desire for this. At best we would get a small initial burst of test takers. We dont need tge tutorials that were present since basically all of them are available on the forum. And then it would stagnate in activity as it did back then. A whole bunch of work for nothing.

Oh yeah, I remember the bot, I believe I got my clan grad from the bot. As far as I remember it used to malfunction from time to time.

And besides tut writers teachers would even write new tests as to update them so they are relevant.

A whole lot of stuff to be done for maybe 30 or so at max applicants, dont ya think?
