They're OK, not great (certainly not as good as anything you'd pay for) but not crap by any means. Good enough if you're not expecting the same level you'd get from Vegas or Premier.
If you really hate yourself you could use Blender - for a 3D modelling app it has a surprisingly good video editor in there, but it's Blender so hardly welcoming without sitting thought a mountain of tutorials.
