Update Any Drivers
Check what card/chipset your computer uses by going to your start menu and searching "device manager" go to "display adapters", if your using nvidia, download the latest driver for the card/chipset @

Remove startup items
run msconfig ( windows 7/8 ) or task manager and remove unnecessary startup items

Enable Fast Boot
run msconfig, goto "boot" tab and check "no gui boot", save and restart.

Defragment Your Drive
goto start, search "defrag", run the program, click analyze on your C drive, then click defragment on the same drive.
