How to apply to staff 101
Hello, I am Karen. Today I am going to update how to apply for staff 101
Basic tips- Some things we look for today are more personality based more than experience based so make sure to write an application that shows some of yours instead of the super bland application.
- Applications can be formatted however you want to but keeping your application clean and well formatted helps your chances a lot, nobody wants to read a wall of text.
- While experience is nice it is not necessary to become staff as we will train you! If you do have experience be sure to include it in your application.
- knowing what staff group you are applying to is a must, below will be a list of staff positions and what they do!
- Don't try to make an application long for the sake of it being long, just keep it as long as it needs to be.
- Dont copy-paste applications from this tutorial or Dargons old tutorial
- When applying it can sometimes take 3 or 4 weeks to get accepted or denied. (We send letters for both) but if you haven't heard anything about your application within 1 month please contact the admin of the group you applied to.
- Even if you follow this guide and make a great application you still may be denied depending on the staff groups needs and who is applying.
Okay before we move on lets talk about user history and staff applications.
The history of a user is very important to the staff team, as they tend to hold grudges (rightfully so). If you have any history with power abuse, scamming, account theft or any other type of general abuse, there is a very good chance you won't get the position you're aiming for, at least for a very long time. If you want the position so desperately, show that. Show that you've reformed and that you now care about the game, and are willing to give up your own time to make it better. If the staff team see and recognize your efforts, you'll get a position eventually. Reformation doesn't happen overnight.
This, for the most part, is true, while your history doesn't instantly deny you from staff it will be talked about including what you did and how long ago you did it. Being a toxic user a few years back is very different from scamming people just a few months ago and will be treated as such when considering your application.
When I read an application a few of the things I look for include - GMT time zone (required)
- Discord tag (required)
- A quick summary of what you have going on currently in life
- Why do you want to join? And what do you want to do with this position?
What are some things we check for?- how active the account has been recently
- Infractions on main or alternate accounts
- Interactions with others in-game and on the forums
- Ingame Symbol none
- Color None
- Description: Watch over a single board or section on the forums. They make sure the rules for each board are followed.
- Ingame Symbol ?
- Color Orange
- Description: handles reports, helps with technical problems, helps moderate In game and the toribash discord server
- Ingame Symbol *
- Color Purple
- Description: Host events and take care of in-game moderation. They aim to keep people entertained and keep Toribash interesting.
- Ingame Symbol $
- Color Green
- Description: Keep the market running and handle all scam and tc-related incidents involving users.
- Ingame Symbol ~
- Color Blue
- Description: Moderate all areas of the forum and game. This can even include market-related, clan-related, or in-game related incidents that would generally be left to the MSquad, Clan Squad, or ES respectively. (need prior staff experience to apply)
- Ingame Symbol ~
- Color Red
- Description: Lead or manage the different staff groups, and also may make higher-end decisions for the community generally involving other staff groups. (need prior staff experience to apply)
Below will be a few applications, 2 good ones, and 2 bad ones, names are removed for obvious reasons.

ok ello event squad i'm coolkid1. im currently 16 years of age, 17 in november. as you could have guessed im currently not employed and still attend school, or well i did until god decided 2020 was a good year for the end times to happen. in my free time i like to listen to music and play video games, and occasionally read books. recently i read "heart of a samurai" for about the 14th time now and i would definitely recommend it, and i'd even go as far to say its one of the best books ive ever read. i would like to talk about my interests more, but other than getting back to diamond rank in paladins, making music, sometimes looking into history and science related shit i don't have much. i like to be asked questions a lot, especially general trivia and just questions in general
why i think i should be event squad
well, im always active because the world is burning right now and i have no life outside of school usually and i might as well put my time to good use entertaining other people during this difficult time. i've only ever hosted servers while trying to get my friends to play, so my real experience in hosting is very limited, however im very interested in learning the skill and becoming a great asset to the event squad team. this is my sole reason for applying to ES. i have no real interest in any other staff group, nor their line of work.
well i guess its worth mentioning that i, myself, get very bored without event servers, and i imagine that other people feel the same way i do, so i'd like to help by offering my time for those people.
what can i offer event squad
well as already mentioned, i can offer activity to a pretty high standard. but i also believe that im a pretty entertaining and talkative person, and i enjoy making others happy. ive got lots of room to grow and i believe i want to spend my time doing just that. i think that the ideal es member is active, nice, competent, and cares about hosting events and entertaining the community, and i believe that with time i can fit this criteria pretty nicely
extra details
my timezone is EST and i live on [Redacted]. i can only speak english, but ive tried learning a little bit of other languages. however i retained no knowledge besides some curse words in russian, so yeah only english
thanks for reading my application and considering me, have a nice day!
So this application is quite good let me go over why.
It has a lot of personality in it so i can get a feel for the person
This person lets us know why they want to join and Its a pretty good reason
If they get staff we know it wont be overloading them since they seem to have enough free time
They know what position they are applying to and what they do.
Shows an interest in wanting to join the Event Squad
Lets go over the bad as well
The grammar here isnt the best but thats not a massive deal.
Seems a little rambly at some points but its not hard to get through the application.
doesn't include discord tags

Now as you can see this app isn't quite as good as the last one. Let's go over why
Off the bat it's just a wall of text and very annoying to try and read
Doesn't seem to know what staff group they are applying to
Already tells us activity is bad.
Has next to no personality so we cant get a sense of the person
Seems to have a very full schedule that will only get worse.
I would definitely not hire this Karen fellow.
Hey there, Help Squad!
My name is coolkid2, more commonly known as your new HS trial.
What can I assist with?
I can offer a list of many different things, some more useful than others, these are:
-In-game and Forum activity.
As of now, I have over 3.8k hours on Toribash, in this time I have learned a variety of different things in Multiplayer and Singleplayer, one of my good traits is patience, I'm willing to spend time with newer players to help teach them what I've learned.
When it comes to Forum activity, I'm always on the forums either lurking or posting in my clans boards, in that time I check through a bunch of threads, including threads within the Help boards, I post and help out there whenever I feel my input is required.
-IRC and Discord activity.
As of recent I've been using IRC a bit more(although it doesn't seem to be used anymore.), I've helped out in #support there quite a bit too.
I'm always on Discord lurking different servers, with this free time I could be very active in the #support channel, on top of this I'm very skilled in setting up and moderating Discord servers, this could be of use too.
-Moderation.
Moderation in Toribash is a thing I've aspired to do for a very long period of time now, I have a feeling I'd be able to do it right, not implying it isn't done right already. In life I've always felt like a leader, I like the feeling of control and responsibility.
-Free time.
I have a lot of time on my hands, things like server sitting aren't a problem at all for me if anything I would enjoy doing this. Watching over things also is not a problem for me, the only time I wouldn't be active would be because of School(07:50-15:00).
Toribash History.
My Toribash history is nowhere near perfect, I don't imagine yours is either, in the past few months I've been working on changing that, having posts look more professional and such.
I'm a Replaymaker if that doesn't scream "free time" I'm not sure what else will.
I first started off years ago, I had found this game in some dodgy website and thought it was 'alright' never thought much about it.
Came back in 2015 due to some videos and stayed ever since.
Important Details.
I live in Somewhere, Contry(pl0x no dox), my timezone is GMT +0
I speak English and only English. However, I do know small portions of French and some Swedish too(shout out to Fred).
My discord is [REDACTED], if anything needs to be cleared or if you wish to discuss something, feel free to fire a DM my way.
That's it for my application, thank you for reading and have a nice day!
This is a great application for a few reasons
It shows personality
Very well-formatted
This person knows what the staff group they are applying to does
It has all the relevant information
Plenty of free time
While not much experience they are willing to put in the time and learn.
Hello, I am choosing to apply for a position on the Event Squad, i have done some research on it and its high relevance to ingame activity and have gained quite a decent relationship with a free of the ESquad members. I have chosen to apply to this position because i believe that i am enthusiastic and creative, i can also brighten someone's day and i am generally generous to those in need of help. On the more serious side being that i must be a mature and reliable person. I believe i am both mature and reliable, i get things done as fast as possible to the highest level achievable. I am also incredibly reliable as when given crucial tasks i can follow them through and finish with no problem. As for maturity id call myself a mature person, i can have jokes and have a sense of humour but when seriousness is needed i am serious.
This is a not so great application
Another wall of text with no formatting
No information of the user
Most of the application is just personality traits and the application is very bland
Dosent look like its been read over
Now finally after you have written your application you need to send it in! You will send your application to any member of the squad you are applying to or any SMod or Admin!
Thank you for coming and reading this tutorial and I hope this helps you apply for whatever staff position you chose! If you have any questions or tips feel free to let me know.
Special thanks to:
Swosh and Tabby for helping with the tutorial
