Gimp is just as useful as photoshop for a toribash texture artist, and has the advantage of being fully free, unlike the several hundred dollars for photoshop.

So true. The new version, 2.6 keeps on going to the wrong canvas, so I have to keep clicking on the other ones until it goes to the right one. It probably makes it 10% harder. The first version I had (I can't remember which) worked perfectly.
GIMP is ok if you are starting, but it really isn't as smooth. Especially if you are using more effects and stuff.
The only reason I can live with it is cuz I rarely use filters anymore. Otherwise, I woulda "bought" Photoshop.
Also, the size of GIMP is a lot smaller, if your computer is already bogged down, then PS might slow it down a lot more.
Gimp is pimp, but most pimp suits are made of crappy material ;)
